    Wow! Gaming laptop..

ASUS introduces the next-generation G74SX power gaming laptop

This morning ASUS gave me the heads up on the launch of the new G74SX power gaming laptop . Part of the venerable and well-respected Republic of Gamers lineup, the PC features the latest and greatest in gaming technology, like an HD 3D display, new SandyBridge i7 CPU and NVIDIA’s new GTX 560M GPU that has a whopping 3GB of GDDR5 VRAM. It’s upgradable to 16GB of memory and two hard drives, too. The latter gives you the option to configure it in my preferred method – a small high-performance SSD for Windows 7 and apps, and a massive 7200rpm spinning drive for data and game installs. Highly recommended if you want the optimal blend of speed and storage.

    from here.

We can now carry and play anywhere gamers :)

i hope i can have one of this..

So, having an SSD for gaming vs a Spinner is not a big deal? I thought it was.

At 1800 the lappy is not a bad thing... to rich for my blood of course but I would love to get my paws on it

Only benefit to a SSD for gaming is faster loading times and maybe less stuttering for those games that make big use of the pagefile (think something like Far Cry 2 where the entire game world is loaded into memory/pagefile), other than that there is no FPS advantage with a SSD.

I am impressed. And who would want to have any PC without an SSD. Nobody is gaming all day long - or maybe nearly nobody with brains.

Someone pointed me towards the ASUS G73JH-A1 at
    Code:
    www.xoticpc.com
; sold out for months, which kinda interested me, but the pricing is competitive. I don't know enough about SSD's to say anything to that, unfortunately, but figured you folks would like the interface/options & their packages, too :)

    Thank you kindly, sir.

I may have to pull the pin on one of those 60GB SSDs just so I can have a clean Win 7 install and use my 700GB spinner for the games... the 160GB WD VelociRaptor I have is getting low scores now.

Lucky you missed the M at the end of that part number. It isn't a GTX 560 in laptop form but this,

AnandTech - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M: High-End Mobile Graphics with Optimus

Before you get too excited, keep in mind the 460M and 560M are based on the same chips that power the desktop GeForce GTS 450 and GTX 550 Ti, and in standard mobile fashion they're also clocked lower than their desktop cousins. That means 192 CUDA cores, and NVIDIA specifies a memory bus "up to 192 bit". Core clock is specced at 775MHz (compared to 900MHz on the GTX 550 Ti), with shaders at 1550MHz. GDDR5 is employed, running at an effective 2.5GHz. Putting things in perspective, the GTX 560M ends up being a 15% clock speed bump from the previous GTX 460M (you can see how such notebooks perform in our recent head-to-head), with the same amount of memory bandwidth.
It's good, but not as quite good as you think it is.
