I will have to disagree on this a little. Mostly because you can't simply cite it is driver issue. Driver issue would not just be stuttering, but consistently low FPS in general or weird graphical effects for the most part. And even if you were to put in better drivers, it does not necessarily improve in the situation of a CPU just getting hammered every once in a while.

As I stated before, in some games, my older system met just the sys requirements, but consistently, what would hamper it down would be higher cpu usage, where the CPU was balancing at 70 to 80% a fair deal of the time and even with termination of programs in the background, there was still the occasional stuttering caused by the game's number crunching.

And yes, setting in the game will help with that, but at the same time, I was watching changes in the system that had nothing to do with the video drivers that would lend itself to putting more burden on the CPU to cause again stuttering in game. But as I stated before, to discount it, it has to be observed while playing the game with the proper monitoring.

We can debate this till the cows come home but the OP has stated he didn't have an issue till he did some driver updates.

I am starting to lose patience with my laptop. Since the beginning of August, my games have started to stutter in gameplay. It is driving me mad now. This never happened before the end of July. I got my laptop in May 2011, and it was fine through May, June and July. Is the problem the sound card, the graphics or something else. I have installed the latest driver ( I think. Something called Catalyst Mobility Suite).
At any rate we'll agree to disagree agreeably

I think you'll find guys that it's just a case of OS degradation and cluttered system files, a simple defrag and clean up will sort the OP's issues out.

    Anyway, back on topic :)

Well, at that point, he might as well just reinstall the OS. He can also try System Mechanic from iolo, although I don't think that will help him much.
