    Playing Cross-Platform games?

This may seem like a dumb question, but it's an area I know nothing about. My brother-in-law has been playing Call of Duty: Black Ops quite a bit on his Xbox 360. I recently got the game for my PC, but I'll admit, I don't normally play any games online. So, that leads me to my possibly stupid question.

Is there anyway the two of us can play online together? Or, do you need to be on the same platform, or at least on a console to achieve this?

PC direct online vs 360 isn't possible. I don't think any of games allow it.

There was talk - and a title pn GFWL but I don't know what became of it.

    Tl;DR - No, you can't

That's actually a good question as I didn't know it wasn't possible. Though in a way it kind of makes sense since some titles may have/get content/features added that the other platform doesn't get.

Though I'm a huge gamer I don't do on-line gaming. Anyway thanks for the question, and answer.

I honestly am surprised that it can't be done. Not that I am disagreeing. I thought I remembered that it would be possible, and that was the big push behind these games, was to have anyone be able to play anyone else.

Although, I can rationalize it to some degree. Call me old school, but I play a lot of FPS games, and I feel like I can aim and shoot much better with my mouse than a gamepad.

rahulsood: Console Gamers Get Killed against PC Gamers

There was a project that got killed at Microsoft. This project was designed to allow console gamers and PC gamers to interact and battle over a connected environment. Personally I wish it would have stayed the course. I've heard from reliable sources that during the development they brought together the best console gamers to play mediocre PC gamers at the same game... and guess what happened? They pitted console gamers with their "console" controller, against PC gamers with their keyboard and mouse.

The console players got destroyed every time. So much so that it would be embarrassing to the XBOX team in general had Microsoft launched this initiative. Is this why the project was killed Who knows, but I'd love to hear from anyone involved --- what happened?

I'm a FPS player myself, though I've lately gotten into RPG's and I've never played with anything other than keyboard and mouse.

At any rate the way the games are being made to use either keyboard or mouse is a bit baffling why you can't cross platform them to play together online.

    Nice info stormy.

Shadowrun (2007 video game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I remember this coming out a while back, but other than that I don't know of any other games.

Makes sense. The controller disparity would have lead to unbalanced play and a shitstorm of whining.

While controllers are good for what they are, quick and precise aiming is not one of their fortes. I bounce back and forth between controller/mouse KB roughly 50% of the time - and I hate aiming with a controller. Slow and bloody cumbersome thing it is.

Unless controllers become more precise, it's a hurdle that's likely to keep a project like this grounded for good.

That's the one I was thinking of! So much hype for 'the new' direction in Online gaming. It was touted as a 'DX10' flagship title too...
