GFWL relogs in every two minutes

I am having an issue with Dirt 3 that appears to be related to GFWL. here are the nuts and bolts... and this happened on two systems.

1 Purcahsed and installed via steam.
2 Game launches and plays just fine except for terrible stuttering about every 2 minutes.
3 Noticed that GFWL takes about 18 seconds to log in.
4 The stuttering that the game suffers from last.... about 18 seconds. Hmmmm.
5 Play game in offline mode, GFWL not logged in, offline only, no multiplayer, no stutters.
6 Stutter happens in single or multiplayer, as long as GFWL is logged in.
7 It's not the PC hardware (i5 2500k, Nvidia GTX 275... all higher end components). Same thing happened on my old Q9550.
8 The router was taken out of the loop by plugging PC directly into my cable modem, same problem.
9 Old system had Avast, new has NOD32, same problem.
10 Have tried running with Win7 FW shut down, same result, both systems.
11 Using all WHQL drivers, system is up to date.
12 Have uninstalled GFWL and purged registry, rebooted, gotten latest GFWL and login assistant from MS. Problem persists.
13 Codemasters offers as little assistance as possible. Pathetic.
14 MS isn't going to help little old me.
15 Steam forums and many others (even vids showing the same problem on Youtube) discuss the same problem, no consistent or reliable solution. Some people develop the problem spontaneously, others have it go away by by reinstalling the OS or installing the game on an SSD.... sure, just for Dirt I'm going to buy an SSD.

I'm no pro, but neither am I a PC idiot. in 25 years of gaming, this is the 1st game I have purchased that I have not been able to overcome a technical problem.

Any help that can be offered is greatly appreciated.

Yes, I have (see #12, I should have said that I got the new WLIA client, too). No luck with that, either.

I have a cable modem that is about 10-11 years old. Might try to get RR to give me a new one. That is about the last idea i have.

have you tried disabling autosave? noticed that it wasn't in the list, people have described to me the same issue and my fix didn't work for them but they disabled autosave and it worked a treat :)

Ok... that should have been #16... yes, I tried that, too. No luck.

Its turned off, I still end up with a 2 GB file.

Seems that there's only one option, windows re-install, I know how frustrating this issue is as I've dealt with it, but the lagging only occurred after a fresh install of windows, but at least you'll know how to fix the same issue as I had :-( sorry

MrNeeds, you have been more than polite and helpful (albiet no more successful than I ). As for me and all those other unfortunate souls with the same issue.......... Flying Duck, NO! This problem migrated from one system to the next through a hardware change and OS reinstall. I have crossed that bridge and am not going back.

Honetly, I have 18 hours logged in this game, all trouble shooting and trying and failing and cussing and swearing. Codies/MS/Steam can fix this one for me. And if they don't, I will not EVER buy another softwre package that has the GFWL tag on it. We all know that will be the case, my fate has been sealed.

Thanks anyways for you time and efforts.

I think there may be one more option, it's a long shot but have a go anyway, try installing another GFWL title, it may overwrite the faulty client, this is all providing you have GFWL games to hand

I have "Battlestations". I'll give that a try and maybe get a WWII naval battles fix in the process.

... or frag things up more.

    Hi,
I've hit the same issue. Uninstalling/reinstalling GFWL or Live-ID Assistant didn't help, nor any of the other solutions that I have found. I've bought the game via Steam two days ago, and this is a new install (new PC).
I've found that the following steps seem to solve the problem for me, however I haven't tested enough (only 5 or 6 races, but at least far enough from the 2 minutes mark).
    - Start the game, login with your profile, and get to the main menu.
    - Alt-Tab outside the game (or Alt-Enter to put it on windowed mode).
    - Open the services manager and stop the service called "Windows Live ID Sign-In Assistant". (Game doesn't start with this stopped).
It seems that GFW stays connected, I checked that my profile gets saved and got into the Bazaar with no problems.
I don't now if there may be some side effects. I've spent too much time on this and at this point my brain is starting to boil.

    Hope that this helps you.
