The Secret World : Everything is true.

First the trailer (which admittedly doesn't have much content)

    and then the site

Okay I just randomly stumbled on this hadn't heard anything about it and I have to admit they did a good job of piquing my curiosity. This really looks like something worth getting in to, certainly a massive amount of potential in the concept. Kind of like a shadow run kind of deal...

...anyhow it appears to be an enormous project, and I was wondering if I was the only one that had absolutely no clue it even existed?

Not sure if you saw this one, there was a link in the description.
YouTube - The Secret World GDC 11 Trailer [HD]

The first trailer seemed great, it piqued my interest as well, seeing as how it is both a religious and mythological blasphemy, which I personally adore
But then I saw the second trailer and heard the words "MMO". Bleh! As if it's not enough that the project does seem huge, MMO or not, but such an advanced game means that much, very very much can go wrong or simply just bad. Coupled with the online aspect, it was a major turn off for me, especially since I'm really not a fan of MMOs and have played very few that I actually enjoyed.

It would be interesting to see the end result, nevertheless, the dev's team really seem to work hard on this, I guess.

Well I like the premise of mixing modern people with the mythical. It reminds me of shadow run which I used to play when most the other geeks were playing d&d.

It had a certain cyberpunk feel to it, and I'm kind of hoping this game proves to be the same, the few screenshots on their website kind of seem to back that theory up a bit.

You may also notice the use of the term "matrix" and being directly linked into computers.

I'm really surprised no one ever called foul on that when the matrix movies came out.

    Nothing I know of.
I'm not sure being a mmo will kill this, it's all going to be about implementation.
How it actually winds up working.
If they really dive into the lore of all those mythical objects, it could really have some depth to it.
Enough to actually keep someone that didn't even typically like mmo's interested.

I also would like to see something like what they did with LOTRO where you don't have to group if you don't want to (you get a special buff so you can run things meant for groups alone)

Yeah, i'd hate to see something like this do poorly do to bad implementation. Oh wait i have, are you familiar with Dragon Age 2? (sorry couldn't resist ). Story wise, this should be a treat.

Yeah, I also like the no classes thing, apparently you can set up a character with whatever combination of skills you want during progression, which is something I don't think I have ever heard of in a mmo. There are always fixed roles. It's actually been a huge annoyance for me in MMO's ...always having to look for a specific class so you can manage to get something done. The play in this would seem to be a bit more free form.

...hard to say, I wish there was a beta to get in on or something...

Yeah, already signed up. I came up as a dragon, and it seems to actually fit me somewhat as I looked at the final responses for the other two as well.

I know it's been a long time since I brought up anything in this post.
But I came across this video that shows a significant amount of progress being made in development.
    It's really looking promising.
