    HDMI Scaling?

Hey there, so I use a 23" LCD monitor, and for the longest time I used VGA.. I tried using HDMI but for some reason there was black bars around the screen and the quality was bad.. I was messing around in the Catalyst Control Center and I found the scaling options and VOILA I can now use the HDMI on a nice 1920x1080 resolution.. the only problem was in games when I WASNT using 1920x1080 there would be black bars.. If I used 1920x1080 in games it would be fine I am just curious how to fix this.. I tried setting the resolution on the new Battlefield game to 1280x720 and it had black bars and I was messing around again and I clicked: http://i55.tinypic.com/aczz8j.png

However when I tried to go on a higher resolution (but still not 1920x1080) the black bars came back and that option didn't fix it..

Just for the record I now have an ATI 5870 with the newest CCC and drivers.

Please try this... it worked for my black border problem when I finanlly decided to properly configure my 23" HDMI on my Notebook.

Please note, if you're using an external monitor on a Laptop, the default (#1) monitor will be your LAPTOP screen and not the external monitor (#2) for these following instructions.

Open Catalyst Control Center (type in CCC in Start > Search).
Go to "Desktops and Displays" from the drop-down menu on the upper-left corner.
At the bottom of this screen, it will show all connected and detected monitors, first being the default and all others being secondary. Click on the upside down triangle above the affected monitor (#1 - #2 for a Laptop with external Monitor being #2) and then select "Configure..." from this drop-down menu.
Select "Scaling Options" from the top tabs of this screen.
Drag the bar under this option ALL the way to 0% Overscan.
Close CCC and enjoy perfect scaling margins.

I just bought a Windows 7 computer. I had the same issue as Ezenemy with lines around the display. According to Samsung this is a known issue in Windows 7 when using HDMI cable. And, as stated, the fix is to turn off scaling.

So you go to Open Catalyst Control Center (type in CCC in Start > Search). Then you can type in scaling in the search box at the top left and it should take you directly to "Scaling Options (Digital Flat Panel)" where you can make the option 0%.
