My benchkmarks: What do you think?

Hello everyone, this is my first post here, so please try and be gentle with me, will ya?
I was wondering for a long time, should I upgrade to Windows 7, esspecially because my rig is not exactly "cutting edge" right now... So, I decided one day to find out what's exactly the difference in terms of usage of my processor and RAM when playing two different games both on Windows XP 32bit, and Windows 7 32bit.

Here's my rig:

AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core 4400+ on 2.31ghz
3GB RAM(Kingston)
NVidia GEForce 8500GT with 512 MB video memory
Caviar 160GB hard drive
Biostar NF520-A2 motherboard

and here are my results:

These are tests for "Bionic Commando" running at same settings(800x600) on both OS:

These are tests for "Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath" running at medium settings with 1024x768 at both OS:

Now here's my point: Should i stick with Windows XP for now, as there are clearly some differencies in terms of usage of my CPU, and RAM, or should I still use Windows 7?

Do you think I can expirience some overheating problems because of this, or am I safe?

Thanks in advance.

Well its not POS Vista lol : )

Im a noob at this, my answers are opinions only.
Ive been building cheap game rigs for 10 -15 years.

I did not do any hard tests, just clean installs with XP and 7.
I could not tell if crysis was running 2-5 FPS slower or not, with Windows 7(dx10).
I think I may have lost 2-4 FPS.

I say go for it, try 7.
If you can go back to XP Later, just in case.

I used XP then 7, im on XP tonight, redownloading the latest Windows 7 and testing it again.

The Benchmarks seem to be about tied. Some Windows 7 Some Xp.
Once drivers get better, Windows 7 may just pull ahead.

I say go for it. Its probably a small upgrade.

Fresh installs of windows seem to help more than anything anyway ^ ^

But these are not going to give you any indication how well a game is actually performing.

You cannot gauge how your games are performing in each OS simply by looking at the resource monitor you have to use a program like fraps and check the actual frame rate in the game and compare it.

Yep I agree with robcardiv you can't just look at the task manager I've been running game on windows XP 32/64 Vista ultimate 32/64 and now Windows 7 32/64 and windows 7 win's it all although the 64 version of windows 7 is much better obviously but still windows 7 wins it all

I did a check using FRAPS, and actually everything seems the same with both of this games(about 27 fps)....I simply wanted to see how much hardware resources Windows 7 uses while runninig games, that's all....But some of you are maybe right. Who knows, when drivers get updated, it might have even
better performance than XP. So far, it DOES a better job than Vista, that's for sure....

What's "FRAPS" ???

There's another forum concerned about "Benchmarking"....

Maybe you guys can help, with your 'analysis'.

well fraps is a program that display FPS (Frames Per Second) while you play and it also has a benchmark option to tell you your average in game FPS
btw where's the other forum you were talking about??

If it works, isn't this an indication of your 'graphics-card', rather than actual Windows 7 performance ?
Maybe DMA, if that's involved, On-board RAM vice shared system RAM, etc. etc.

Seven or XP?
