    Screen flickers then minimizes.

1st post here and is a negative one

Anyway, I'm running Sims 2 and Age of mythology of virtual drives. Whenever I start them I have to battle with the laptop to keep them open.

When it starts loading it just flickers then minimizes, I then have to click it about 10-12 times before it eventually stays open.

Are there any solutions for this?

I understand there oldish games and compatibility could be the issue, but the fact that they do stay open would suggest that they're fine.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

hi Ben1 and welcome to the forums,

i have to ask the basic questions first:

have you checked to see if you have the latest graphics drivers?

have you tried running the games in compatability mode?

have you tried disabling aero (if you use it)?

do you still have problems if you use the cd/dvd rather than virtual drives?

    That's brilliant thanks!

Turning off the Aero effects worked for me!

I just have to remember to do that every time I play a game. Its a nuisance but hey, I don't mind.

    Thank you so much!

    Ben.

I know this is off topic, but will turning off Aero themes improve performance?

glad it was an easy one!

    enjoy your games. :)

*edit* i think you can turn off aero on a game-by-game basis.

right-click on your game's shortcut >> compatability >> disable visual themes and desktop composition

this way, you wont have to keep remembering to turn aero on and off - the shortcut will take care of it
