Marshall Moore, there's a DirectX.log under C:\Windows too. Can you post that log please? Thank you.

Did you actually run this program? If so, it might have hosed your DX files even further. My suggestion is if all else fails to first run a sfc - SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker. If that doesn't work you can try a Repair Install

Either way you go make sure you backup your critical files.

Also according to this - Windows 7 Compatibility for Madden NFL 08: EA. Drivers, Updates, Downloads the game is comaptible with Windows 7 so.....

After much deliberation and research on my part, I am about to conclude the same. I can't pinpoint where the exact problem is for sure as I failed in every way to try to replicate it.

However, before you go to that extreme, I would like to suggest the following based on your log file.

You see, your log ends with this error:
Code:
10/26/11 14:46:36: dxupdate: CMDXCheck::IsAssemblyInUse(): GetAssemblyList() failed, error = 0x80070005.
What's supposed to happen would look like this, based on my own log file:
Code:
10/27/11 10:58:41: dxupdate: CMDXCheck::IsAssemblyInUse(): Microsoft.DirectX.AudioVideoPlayback:1.0.2902.0:31bf3856ad364e35 is not locked.
10/27/11 10:58:41: dxupdate: IsTargetFileInUse(): C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\DirectX for Managed Code\1.0.2902.0\Microsoft.DirectX.AudioVideoPlayback.dll is not locked.
I suggest that you:
1. Update/Repair/Reinstall .NET by using Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Web Installer)

2. Check if you can access C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET and its subfolders. You should be able to.

3. Have the following Registry entries in [HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\.NETFramework\AssemblyFolders\]

4. Rename "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\DirectX for Managed Code" to something like "DirectX for Managed Codea" (<-Added an "a" in the end. This will serve as a backup). This will prompt the DirectX updater to redownload the folder along with the files.

If it fails, then I can't think of anything else except to do sygnus21's advice of a repair install.

Actually I would try the SFC first, then do the repiar install if SFC doesn't work.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Quote:
The sfc /scannow command (System File Checker) scans the integrity of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible.
Repair Install
Quote:
Do a Repair installation if:
  • A System Restore did not help fix your Windows 7.
  • There is no other easier option left that can fix your Windows 7.
  • You DO NOT want to do a Clean reinstall of Windows 7.
  • You DO want to preserve your user accounts, data, programs, and system drivers.
