my cousin's pc specs are kinda similar to me but he got an intel core 2 duo e5400 2.70 GHz cpu and he got no problem and we got internet connection from the same isp and the same speed.
IF you are using the internet to play together (which you probably are) it is probably a network issue. Are you? Are your friends in your house (local) and playing internally on you network or are they playing from their homes?
