Yes, its normal for Steam to suspend a download when you launch game.

I really like Steam myself. I typically put a set sum in my Steam wallet for the sales and buy a bunch of stuff. Usually they last me until the next big sale.
But in all honesty, I have a backlog of games I havent played yet and still buy more at sales lol.

I had the same issue with HD space. Thats why I eventually got a large HD thats dedicated to just Steam.

They have 2 major sales a year. One in Summer and one in Winter. Then a couple minor ones.
They also have a Misweek madness and dailys all year.

That could be a good idea for a dedicated thread. A heads up thread where we all rally together.

(I may have been a Steam holdout, but so far I'm really enjoying the ease of use (no more flapping around with 'work arounds') and the new found 'glow' of supporting companies. It's assuaged my guilt that had been growing over the years I'm also more inclined to actually start and finish games )

The only downsides are that my drive is filling up quickly and I don't see why any current downloads get suspended while I play a steam game Is that normal or is there a setting I'm missing?

My paypal account is also copping a hammering, lol.
You can keep steam downloading while in game by at+tab then go to steam and start it up again,it's what I did while playing one of my games on steam. Was a sp btw

yeah, I wacked a few hundred on paypal to cover the xbox and steam.

As for backlog - if I didn't have one before (which I did) I certainly do now

Annoyingly, I have the space - but not quite in the right place.

I've got a 500GB Raid 0 partition for games, a dedicated 240GB Intel 520 for games and my 240GB 520 for the OS+Steam. I'm now a bit of a SSD snob and want all of them on my SSD

It's just a pity that steam won't allow you to individually specify drives/locations. The all or nothing is a tad annoying.

Cool - for the time being I should be good for awhile, but it gets a bit addictive. (I even d/led the Thief series only to find there are a shed load of hoops to jump through to try and get them to run )

To simplify the process, I just junction link magic.
Junction Link Magic

Just move the game folder from your steamapps/ common to where ever you want it.

I have Steam on the OS drive, the steamapps folder was moved with this program to a dedicated HD. Then whatever games I want on a SSD I just move those games from the spinner with it.

Although this works great, Steam really needs a better option for where to put each game.

Got the the whole crysis series during the steam summer sale. For some reason crysis 1 and warhead i can put every setting on very high expect for psychics quality which makes micro stutters in big fire fights, think my cpu gets bottle necked if if put it higher then medium, every other setting runs like a champ on very high with x4aa.On crysis 2 the game had this like blurry effect so I got a custom tool and changed some settings myself and only turned off this one setting that is kind of like AA but blurs the whole screen.Game looks good now, anyways been playing them and I like them so far,not to bad and graphics are nice. Both running nice in dx10 and crysis 2 in dx11 with texture update.

Just completed Batman: Arkham Asylum for the 1st time and Fallout: New Vegas for the 2nd time. Gotta say I'm very pleased with both games.
