BF3 patches - client and server

    ---- Client-Side Changes:

-- Visuals, Stability and Performance Fixes:

    • General performance and loading time improvements
    • “Black Screen” fix for an issue occurring on some PC Configurations
    • Stereo and Rendering Support for Nvidia and AMD Graphics Cards
    • Adjusted the “stuttering” encountered on some PC configurations.
    • Fixed several Crashes when joining MP and Co-Op sessions
    • Fixed multiple problems when using multiple monitors (Eyefinity / Surround).
    • Fixed visual corruption issues on certain Nvidia Cards
    • Improved loading times for certain textures
    • Added console command “GameTime.MaxVariableFps” to limit max FPS
    more client changes...

Here is a near-complete changelist for the game servers:

    * Support for unranked servers (vars.ranked)
    * Ranked servers have a few settings as read-only (see documentation)
    * Unranked servers allow changing of all settings
    * Reintroduced vars.allUnlocksUnlocked for unranked servers
    * The game server will parse all of Startup.txt even if an error is encountered
    * vars.roundStartPlayerCount / vars.roundRestartPlayerCount handling rewritten to be more natural
    * vars.maxPlayers cannot be used to go past the server's max number of slots any more
    * Security updates to the game server
    * Fixed several server crashes, hangs, and a 10-second stall - all of which which would make the server drop every player
    * vars.gamePassword can only be invoked during server startup, not while the server is already running
    * vars.teamKillCountForKick 0 will disable team kicking instead of kicking people frivolously
    * banList.add would sometimes crash; fixed now
    * EOD bot scoring exploit fix
    more server changes...

update through origin or battlelog, patch size is about 500 megs.

According to EA forums and the Battlelog news comments, this patch is causing all sorts of problems. Most notably
--black screens (ironic since they say it fixes black screens, but many have never seen one)
    --crashes 20-30 seconds into games.

I'm a bit frustrated with BF3 at present. They did something over the weekend which broke access to battlelog.battlefield.com for many ISP's around the world. I was down for 3 days before they got it fixed. I lost connection early Saturday morning and didn't get it back until 4pm Monday. Without hitting battlelog, you cannot actually startup a multiplayer game or see a server list to play on. Real bummer.

what other changes would you like to see in next patch?

    i would like:

    • squad voip - in-game! not through battlelog or sonar or anywhere else, but IN-GAME!
    • colour blind mode - just like in BC2 - that orange and green look way too similar to me (and a lot of other folks)
    • fiddly bipod need improving!

    I think everyone want's a good VoIP system built-in.

A few of my buddies and I use a mumble server, but it's not open to the public...so we can only talk to each other and not anybody else on our team. For a game based on teamwork, they really seemed to have really limited the experience with this decision.

    i've just tried the patch.

the first time i tried to connect to a server, it failed and i got an error message.

so i rebooted, tried again and i played five minutes without problems. seems a bit smoother too.

    however, ymmv!

anyone know where the patch gets downloaded to?

i want to save it so i don't have to re-download it in case of possible future reinstall.

there's an update/patch folder in the main game folder, but i don't think it's in there.

or, maybe it doesn't get downloaded as an .exe file?
