For those who didn't cheat to lvl 80 but need to now...

For those of us who didn't cheat our way to level 80 but played a fair amount of the game, including the DLC's, are probably like me sitting somewhere between high 60's to low to mid 70's level.

Well there was a way to get to level 80 rather easy with the Oghma Infinium glitch. Unfortunately that cheat is officially removed with the 1.9 Skyrim patch: BeefJack | Skyrim patch 1.9 banishes Oghma Infinium glitch, infuriates players.

You could still get the book: "player.additem 0001A332 1" (minus the quotes, and notice the spaces), and it’ll work, but it’s one and done. And even if you save and exit the game, come back and command console the book again, it won’t work. I’ve now got 3 books trying this.

Anyway there is still a method to increase your level though it is a bit slow and cumbersome. Basically you can just level up through the command console... however this could cause perk problems.

BACKUP YOUR ENTIRE SAVE FOLDER BEFORE DOING THIS!!! - C:\Users\yourname\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves

OK so you basically just use "player.advskill (skill name) (amount)" without quotes or parenthesis. Example: player.advskill destruction 3750. This will basically advance your skill level in destruction 3 levels - from say 47 to 50. As your skills advance, so does your overall level so...

You can read here and here (scroll down to Skill Advance Commands). Or like I said, just use something like the example I've shown, meaning make sure to use at least 3750 but probably no more than say 6000, which is the max I used. And those numbers seems to depend on that skill level at the time so a bit of experimenting with the numbers may be in order.

I know this works with the latest patch (1.9) because I used it, which is why I'm posting it now. And when I started I was at 73 so depending on where you are it could take some time.

As for issues - I’ve found that if you level using this method, your perks may not take as you add them. Thus using the skill prior to adding a perk seems to fix this. In short, I’ve found using the skill before adding a perk insures the perk takes. I would also save before adding, just in case. You don’t want to expend a perk, not have it work, and not be able to get it back.

Now, when you do get to level 80, you will be approached by an Ebony Warrior who will challenge you to a fight at a specified location. All I’m going to say is this is no easy fight so be prepared.

And yes... you have to be at level 80, and have the Dragonborn DLC to meet him.

    Enjoy.

Huh, had no idea you had to be 80 for him to show up. I already was long before Dragonborn with about five different characters.

He just showed up with the cultists in Whiterun and I didn't have much trouble beating him down. He was rather nasty as he had a nice regen health/endurance enchantment, but I've modded Skyrim all sorts of ways and removed the level cap long ago. With proper planning and training I can get my skills up to 299. Haven't done any single character maxed out as I do leave my home on occasion.

No, I don't use the smithing/alchemy/enchanting exploit. [Google it.] Did it for the lulz a couple of times, but it just makes the game boring to craft 'The Finger of God' and fell the mightiest of Dragons with the mere touch of an overly smithed and enchanted herring or to walk around in armor so powerful I could drag Molag Bal and Mehrunes Dagon out of Oblivion by their noses, curb stomp their balls, and stand there and take their rage as if they were two babies beating on a six inch slab of steel with their weak girly baby fists.

He never challenged me or told me to meet him anywhere though. If he pops in with the cultist he just fights you right there. [At least he has when I've met him.] I think it's because the cultist immediate aggression triggers his aggression and he just attacks you with them. Not sure, but I was never asked to 'meet him' anywhere. He walked up, had words, and as soon as the dialogue box closed he and three of the cultist attack me. May have since been patched, but he's gotten riled up and attacked me with the cultist in Whiterun three times with separate characters.

Meh. You're right to warn others though, especially if you're only level 80. He'll mess you up quick if you're not careful, even I couldn't have just stood there and taken his attacks. He wore me down enough to use a few potions even using characters that were leveled as high as 200. We're talking as nasty as top tier Dragons in the Deadly Dragons mod with the settings maxed out to the hardest difficulty. [For those playing on consoles, that's a world of hurt, like a 45-60 minute dragon fight with high level characters.] Killing him takes less time as he doesn't leave the ground, but he's about as tough.

Also, using the console is lame. However, should you choose to, you can also level up your perks using the console. Well, you can actually level up any stat using the console. There are lots of guides on the web about console commands, Google it. The UESP site has a good section about it with easy instructions for most of the common console commands the casual player might be interested in.

However, why bother? Go to the Skyrim Nexus, look for a Mod called the 'Leveler's Tower', put it in, and you've instantly got a place right outside the tutorial dungeon that will let you level your character, give you all sorts of items, a chest of items with every enchantment in the game for unenchanting, every ingredient in the game, a crafting item dispenser, has pre-made uber weapons and armor that aren't so overpowered as to make the game extremely boring/easy[You are not invincible, but are very hard to kill], a soul gem dispenser, a mob generator for collecting souls/daedric hearts/whatever else, and an easy interface to do it all with. [Just push buttons on the walls.] All in a nice player home to store your hoarders level collection of crap that you've no doubt stolen and think you might find a use for one day. [You won't.]

If you're going to cheat anyway, do it in style. Plus, this mod is a lot less likely to bug/corrupt/break your game than using the console is. Seriously, it's safer to do it this way.

No, there's no way for you to do this with a console. You'll just have to do it the hard way. That's more fun anyway. Seriously, cheating like that is really meant to be a shortcut for people who've played through the game several times already the hard way. Don't be a wuss, just do it for the lulz once you've seen and done it all already.

Anyway, I'm currently using a Nord with maxed out Unarmed. I can beat a Dragon to death with my bare hands. In fact, I've not used a single weapon for the whole playthrough. [No cheating, it's possible if you spec yourself and armor up right.] His name is Ahnold and he wants to pump you up. One day he will be Guvenor of Cyrofornia.

Not even the Elder Scrolls can fathom the might of his pumpitude or understand the importance of being able to crush huge rocks with your buttocks the way he does.

Soon, soon Skyrim will be cleansed of girlymen...

    and dragons too I suppose.

Uh, I hate to say this, but unless you were at level 80, and had the Dragonborn DLC he didn't show up - Ebony Warrior. You also don't fight him in Whiterun or any of the other Holds, you fight him at his designated place, and he certainly has no helpers.

As for the superman mods, the game is easy enough once you hit the mid 40's, so skills of 299 is just pure overkill and in my opinion just ruins the enjoyment of the game. I had a hard time keeping focus just being at level 70 with normal skills.

Anyway I don't know about this "long before Dragonborn" or who you fought, but unless you have the Dragonborn DLC, and were at level 80, you didn't fight the Ebony Warrior.

Context is important and you're taking my quote well outside of it. Misread my post, you have. Hmmmm.

I had five lvl 80+ characters before Dragonborn was released, and I haven't made a new one since it was. That's obvious as my post also mentions the cultist showing up with him and they are directly tied to DB's storyline, so they obviously wouldn't be there if I didn't have the DLC.

Superman mods don't break the game if you've got your game modded for difficulty. Well, assuming you've not made yourself invincible armor of the Gods, Smithing exploited yourself the Tamriel equivalent of a tactical nuclear weapon in the form of an iron dagger of doom, or given yourself 100% chameleon.

I've got Deadly Dragons maxed out, the Monster Mod with maxed out Mobs, Warzones [maxed out, increases the number and strength of mobs, hostile NPCs in particular], and several other mods that adjust difficulty and not to my character's advantage, plus a lot of stuff that's just there to make it purty. Leveled enemies keep up with my character so leveling beyond default levels doesn't break my game or make it too easy. It's not Dark Souls mind you, but I've still got plenty of peril in my Skyrim beyond default levels.

I'm a little bit of a gaming sadist and like my games to be hard. Like, Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, or TMNT for NES hard. The casual gamer would not survive my Skyrim and would give up as a traumatized broken frustrated loser who would fear all RPGs from that day forward.

Sometimes I cheat for the lulz, but only after I've had my hardcore gaming fun first.

Here's a couple of screenshots of my lvl 103 Brenton showing off the purty...

Sorry, but it was clear the first time. You should brush up on reading comprehension, because it was obvious what I meant in the first post if you actually read it.

I'm guilty of quickly scanning through a post and missing things sometimes myself, but if you'd actually read my original post it was obvious what I meant. It was worded in such a way that you'd need to misread it [like you did] to come to the rather odd conclusion that I was suggesting that I'd met this DLC character before the DLC was released.

The first sentence clearly states that I was unaware that level 80 was required to trigger him. The second sentence clearly states that I had already reached that level with several characters before the DB DLC was released. My post then goes on to state his appearance was triggered immediately upon starting a game with said characters with the DLC loaded in. Thus explaining why I was unaware lvl 80 was a requisite for triggering his appearance.

I just thought he was just leading that first group of cultist you run into. They didn't attack each other and he jumped in with them when they attacked. I'm guessing they are faction tied. I had him figured as the head bad guy from the DB DLC's right hand guy or something. I always killed him during that first meeting and didn't give it much thought.

Then my post goes on to explain that his appearing in this manner along with the cultist, who are triggered by the same DLC, set off his aggression immediately in my case rather than having him setting up a meeting to duel at a later date. Before degrading into an old SNL joke related to the Austrian former Governor of California and my badassed Nord who thinks waving about pointed metal sticks is for girlymen. It totally made complete sense.

Grammar is your friend, and my post was full of awesome clearly worded grammary goodness.
