Most of problems of C&C - Generals or Zero Hour won't start in XP, 7 (32bits or 64bits) is about registry error. So I'm attaching the registry of it so you can modify with your folders BEFORE running the .REG.

Regards everyone.

how exactly do you change the registry ive tried every other thing it the first splash screen starts up then it goes dark then right back to the desktop ive had this problem with 4 windows 7 computers 2 vista computers and and xp computer. ive recently played it on a windows 7 custom desktop and a vista 64bit laptop

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I had this problem on my sons system where he could not start Zero Hour, but Generals would run.

So I loaded them both onto my machine and they both ran fine.

We are both running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

So I started Generals on both machines and found that his machine had a graphics option (resolution) of 1400x1050, where as my machine (only couple weeks old with better hardware) only allowed a resolution of 1360x1024. So I set his Generals to 1360x1024.

From here I believe you could uninstall and then re-install Zero Hour and it should be fine, however, I cheated and edited the options file as below:
* open "Options.ini" found under C:\Users\<user name>\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data
or you can also get to it under My Documents and then Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data

* find the line similar to Resolution = 1400 1050

* change it to Resolution = 1280 960 (best good one I found)

* close and save the "Options.ini" file

Your game should now work fine if it was the same problem we had at our place.

Here's the problem, I've tried all compatible modes and still it just starts up I can see the logo and then in the windows task manager it says Not Responding it all kind of like freezes up on the logo and then it just closes down...

I've tried
-directx 9

and all kinds of stuff in the shortcut command line but still not working..
I've been googling but there's been nothing that has been helping...

Also when I try running C&C 3 Tiberium wars it says "Please get directx 9 or higher" and it mentions video card acceleration as well...

It might be directx that is the problem here, I've installed lots and lots of directx versions until it finally said "There's allready a higher updated version"

Anyways, Any help and discussion is appreciated
hello, i have a problem, and i know how to solve it. my C&C generals wont start. not even a screen. just for a second that windows loading circle, and its because i'm missing ''command and conquer generals data'' folder in ''my documents'' folder, so m asking anybody to send me the data folder. thanks
