They did say licensed soundtracks need not apply. Don't really care for GTA's radio station music, Road Rash back in the 90s had plenty enough rocking tunes.
Wtf Doom 2? I like to think I'm more tolerant of midi than the average guy, having gamed since the 1980s, but Doom 2's midi was nothing outstanding.
They left out the Crusader: No Remorse / No Regret games, unforgivable. Some of the best protracker music for the time. Hell, even the installer music kicked ass. It kicked so much ass I still remember it. Speaking of installer music, the first Vampire: The Masquerade game (Redemption, not the later Bloodlines) had a nice one.
