    Colin McRae 2 overlay problem

Hi everyone. Long time reader/follower but decided to register only now that I've got the MSDN ultimate release and I still have a problem that has kept me from playing Colin McRae 2 since the early builds of Seven. I've searched through the gaming threads and didn't found any of this reported yet.

The problem I have is quite strange since it's the only game I own that has this kind of problems: whenever I get through the menus into the race I can't see the car and track... I can hear the engine, I can accelerate, brake, change gears (and I can listen to all of it), but the loading screen (that light blue/gray one) gets stuck in front of the actual ingame graphics.

It works well on the laptop with Vista of my girlfriend, it works well in my old desktop with XP, it even works kind of well with Wine... but I can't get it to work with Seven.

I've tried all compatibility modes, several video drivers, several resolutions, ingame graphics settings.. nothing worked so far.

I know it's an old, old game, but I really enjoy playing 1vs1 on Lan against my girlfriend from time to time... anyone had a problem like this? Any ideas?

    my specs:
    T7300
    3gb ram
8400m GS (puke, I know, but it's more than enough to run it flawlessly with XP/Vista).
7 RTM (legal key and all... :P )

    Thanks in advance!

and since you got nvidia card try this:

Right click on the desktop. click on Nvidia controll panel.
in there go to display -> adjust desktop size and position
    Then use nividia scaling.

Thanks, it was worth the try, but unfortunately it didn't work when trying to play on my laptop screen neither through the HDMI cable. :\

I'm starting to think the game is totally incompatible with the OS...

    Hi,
Hard to believe, but I have same issues as well. In game menu everything is ok, but when I start the race graphics just go mad. I can see some things on the screen, but its pretty much nothing. I can't even get to the sound part because when that screen comes up, computer pretty much freezes.
Have you found a solution for your problem? I remember Colin Mcrae Rally 04 had some problems on XP and then you had to type some thins on the shortcuts target line.

Could you explain this patching? What should I download?

You can get the update for example from here.
    http://www.fileplanet.com/57747/down...-Rally-2-Patch

Then you just click the .exe file and it installs the update.
Then you just launch the game as usual.

At least that worked for me.
