Can i use a standard PSU with a mis range gaming ring

so i built my system a little over a year ago and late last year the PSU died so now i'm thinking of buying a standard 700W PSU i.e. one that is not certified and does not have any six pin connectors (i plan to use adapters for the GPU and board connection).
do you guys think that's a good idea, will it work properly?

    System specs:
    Case: CM Storm Scout
    Mobo: MSI 790-FX GD70
Processor: AMD Phenom II x4 955 (3.2 GHz)
    HDD: 500 GB and a 250GB
    GPU: Radeon 5770
    RAM: 4GB OCZ

    please give some insight!..................thank you!

    Why 700 watts?

Why "uncertified", although I'm not sure what you mean by that?

What PSU brands can you get in Grenada or will you buy from some other country?

do you think 700W is too much?

not certified then meaning its not certified for gaming purposes and does not have any six pin connectors just the 24 pin and a 4 pin

i cannot find any good PSUs here like corsair or OCZ and so on.....and its too pricey to purchase one online right now!

    It says here:

ATI Radeon HD 5770 Review > Power Consumption & Temperatures - TechSpot Reviews

that an entire system with that video card uses under 300 watts under high stress (running Furmark)

I have no idea what a "gaming" certified PSU might be and would expect that term to be largely meaningless.

I'd find a decent quality PSU with the proper connectors, and ignore "gaming" certification.

You're free to buy a 700 watt or 1200 watt PSU as you see fit, but I'd look for a high quality unit of 450 or 500 watts and buy it online if I had to.

point taken!...........guess your most likely right about the whole gaming certified PSU thing

but the 700W is just in case i want to add more Hard Drives and/or more fans to the case or any other extension or whatever

btw thanks for the quick replies i appreciate it very much!

A hard drive uses under 10 watts, fans use a couple of watts. You can do the arithmetic.

The only reason you would actually need a 700 watt power supply is if you used Crossfire/SLI.

But do what makes you feel comfortable.

If you can get an Antec PSU - e.g. 650 Watts, that would be a good choice. I never had trouble with Antecs.

That's too bad because here they are not very expensive - and very often they go on sale:

Newegg.com - Antec EarthWatts EA-650 GREEN 650W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply
