Xbox 720 due out 2013?

I cant beleive how far behind the consoles are

My heart sank like a son of a bitch when I read that it was rumored to be a 6670. If set in stone, it's extremely disapointing news.

Well i cannot fully agree with you at some point.. If you play Red Dead Redemption, Alan Wake, Forza Motorsport 4 and some other titles so i can say they have beautiful graphics

Sure they look good, but when you're used to min x4AA/FXAA/x16AF etc - they are ugly by comaprison.

I get some frame rate drop in some games, but I honestly think the issue is with the game and not necessarily the console.

They've plateaued with what they can do and some games simply demand too much. Developers are expected to improve visuals continually and they do - but at the cost of increased frame rate losses and performance because the current hardware is woefully outdated.

It's pretty damn short sighted of MS to repeat the same mistake of releasing an already slow and outdated machine.

But since the target demographic's majority is full of those that are happy to accept 'okay' and 'good enough' and not real advancements, then slow and outdated is what we'll get and the limiting flow on affect for PC gaming be damned.

On the flip side, My Xbox360 which I bought in May of 2006, which is almost 6 years old is still playing all of the current games for the platform without requiring any upgrades. the same cannot be said for my PC.

Upgrades are only done when you want to have the latest and the greatest... so to speak.

I am still on DDR2 RAM, GTX260 and there is no FPS game my puter can not handle... I haven't had the need to update or upgrade solely because games are made for consoles and ported to PC so I am still light years away from having to update. ;) :D

So to speak. My computer is similar to yours, but is only 2.5 years old at present. My 360 is much older. And my video card was upgraded from a 9800GTX+ to the GTX570 as BF3 was playing rather crappy with that old video card.

Yeah a 6670, looks like is is between 20-40% the speed of my current 2 year old card :( Meaning it'll run about as well as whatever I had in my machine as a GOOD card about... 4 years ago and it's still got 1+ years to release.

So it looks like it'll be even further behind "current" hardware when it comes out (by FAR) than the 360 was in it's time.

That 6670 number CAN'T be right.

I mean I know they don't wanna put a 250 watt monster card in there, but it should have to at least manage a constant 60 fps at 1920x1080 at an absolute minimum, with GOOD draw distance and MINIMAL pop-up, decent AA and all the effects. If somehow the 6670 can actually manage that then ok. but... it sure seems unlikely comparing it to my current hardware :(

there most likely using a 6670 because they don't want to go over the price limit of around 300-400$usd on release. Probably trying to make it affordable and will be tweaked to hell to make it run more graphic intense games but still behind a mid range pc :|

I can understand that cost, power draw/heat etc is a major factor in their decision but it's still a big let down nevertheless.

I'd rather pay more for a console than compromise long term performance :(

that number is correcte, they got cost, heat, power and price war with sony going on!
there tweak the cpu in there to run games well enough,,but i doubt it last that long unless you can upgrade the gpu in consoles,,which i think should be introduced<
After 3 years new gpu for console comes out,say £60 ,you press a button the old card pops out,put new one in!
thats a idea ?

New idea for xbox 720

I had a brain surge,i often have them!
anyway here it is,
Rather than limit a console to a naff gpu because of price, why not have the gpu upgradable!
you press a button your old card pops out,,pop new one in.
If they sell the new cards for say £70 then people who want to upgrade graphics can pay ,people who dont wont.
And if the people who dont want to play the games,,there be an option to run them with lower graphics, while the upgraders can play em at quality visuals e.t.c!
I think this is a super idea!

and i will patent it so microsoft if you use this ,,PAY MEE :D

^ Console games are built with specific hardware in mind. Playing on consoles keeps a level playing field for all those playing console games. To have an upgradeable video system would just introduce variations that could lead to instability in the platform.

This is true.

What I like about my consoles is that I don't have to be concerned whatsoever about what the system requirements are for a new game when it comes out. I don't have to download a video card driver, I don't have to upgrade my video card, I don't have to do anything other than buy the game and put it in the console.

While I do enjoy the graphics that I can achieve on my PC in a game like Battlefield 3, it often comes at a price. The computer, the video card and the hassle of getting the game to run well. Lots of people experienced lots of problems on their PC version of this game when it came out. People running in SLI or Crossfire were getting abysmal performance, people were getting black screens, people were getting green flashes of light on the screen, etc.

So, while the PC looks better, the console is easier. Each person has to evaluate the tradeoffs to make the right decisions for themselves.

Pc for gaming is going down the hole!
developers just dont bother making them work on pc at release.we have to wait for a patch or some update or EVEN A NEW DRIVER FROM NVIDIA,TO IMPROVE IT!

THIS IS WHAT I HATE ABOUT PC GAMING,BUT PC IS KING ,It does so much more and i love how upgradable a pc is with a simple mobo change!endless

I agree with both of you! i also enjoy playing those games that never hit on PC and only released on consoles.. I also love upgrading my PC but that costs alot if i upgrade every few months but with a decent setup we can still enjoy games and the hardware lasts for a good time. Last year was the best year for Gaming on PC for me coz i finished alot of games and most of them ran without a problem :D

I still prefer pc gaming over xbox or playstation because of support for mods, better graphics and the many f2p games out there. I rather spend more for a pc then be limted to what they give me on a console and having to pay for stuff like xbl or ps plus to experience the full experience is a big no no in my book. Now don't think im biased because i own a xbox 360 and only use it for gears of war, mainly just let my brother play it since all the other games i just play them on pc
