If you're looking for some old school RPG's, I'd try out Baldur's Gate (but you won't find that game being sold in regular stores anymore.) You'll have a hard time finding that game anywhere, I'm afraid. Anyway, moving on...)
You can find the Balders gate game in a 4 disc pack that includes the original Balders gate, Balders gate 2 and two expansion packs on Amazon new for about 20.00 or so.

Definately one of the best rpg's ever made. Granted the graphics are from the late 90's era but the gameplay including replay value is immense as for all the different options to the choice of characters change the way you approach most situations.

Definately a must own in your collection if you like rpg's.

On the other hand, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning really is a good game, totally different, a bit more casual (haven't finished it yet, so I wouldn't know really)
i wasn't trying to cause outrage it's a personal opinion of the game, when you have played games with more in depth control mechanics 20 years ago you wonder what the hell they were doing with skyrim.

graphics and exploration are fine i don't deny that and never would but as a whole the game is missing a great deal.

for a console game it's fine, for pc sorry but it doesn't make the cut, i have 109 keys to use, skyrim used like 6 of them.

the game has good points but i would not call it a serious game in any way, what i see is a chance they missed to make one of the best rpg's in a long time and instead took the easy route and ported a console game and forgot that pc gamers want more.

I think Skyrim is a very weak and blah RPG, though I think it is hardly an RPG at all. The UI, dialog and AI are terrible, but that's par for the course with Bethesda games, and the gameplay is dumbed down to worthlessness. I think that the last good game they made was Bloodmoon, the Morrowind Expansion.

Gothic 1 and 2 are both amazing PC RPGs, can't go wrong with those.

Aside from whats been mentioned ..

Divinity2 the Dragon Knight Saga Good game, though lacking in the graphics department.

In regards to Skyrim ... Just like Oblivion and the Fallout series .. wait for the modders to get things together.
Then choose the best of the best, and the game ends up much better.

Personal opinion or not, its just sounds like you don't what your talking about. Anyone can see that, Playing games that are 20 years old doesn't mean you can thrash todays good games. Opinion my arse.

You don't have to call it a serious game, no one would take you serious anyways. I agree that pc gamer want more and we have more. ever heard of mods? i dont think so, you were probably busy counting your keys.

When you have a chance to learn about the economy of the in-game world itself, that's when you can't deny that the game has depth. Skyrim has incredible depth, even more so than Oblivion. The player is so free of restrictions that many other RPGs have, that you can literally make the game your own. It puts games like Mass Effect, Borderlands, Fallout (to an extent), Bulletstorm and other RPG elemented multigenre games to utter shame!

And it is the most "expandable" modern game because of mods. Bethesda never really knew how to make bug-free games that are close to "flawless"/"perfect" etc. but at least they give us the ability to make and use mods. Skyrim will be played for years to come solely because of mods, and that excludes any kind of official expansion via DLCs.

I'm not saying here that Skyrim is the best RPG ever, it's very, very far from that. But after we had to go through Oblivion, it is definitely an Elder Scrolls game I most enjoyed.

And I mentioned in my first comment that it has advantages over Dragon Age: Origins, which I think is true. It doesn't make it necessarily better, just a bit more interesting in a nerdy sort of way.

Also, I am QUITE surprised that NOBODY mentioned The Witcher series. Now THAT'S an EPIC RPG right there. It doesn't get any more badass than The Witcher... unless you have wet dreams about Batman at night

And I don't think I can ever forget about Bastion. That little adventure game (with only slight RPG elements) is probably the best game I've ever played in my life. It was such an unexpected pleasure, it shocked me to the core and rocked my world!
