Same exact thing is happening to me! Has anyone found a fix yet?????
I know this is an old game, but some of us still like to breakout the old MOHAA and play. I have found by just changing the destination to crogramfiles/EAGAMES. That this fixes all updating and game play problems. I searched the internet over and over and most say to get into registry and make changes to it. Don't do that. This will work. The installer will try to make you put it into crogramfiles/(x86)/EAGAMES. Just remove the (x86) and it will work.
Apologies for the thread necro.
After a laptop factory reset and a complete clean install I decided to have another go at getting MOHAA etc to work.
Lo and behold the trick for me was open the NVidia control panel. under manage 3D settings set auto-select which works for almost all programmes, but not for MOHAA etc.
With that the trick is to right click on the icon, then hold the cursor over "Run with graphics processor" and then click on "High performance NVidia processor"
Start up MOHAA in safe mode if the last time you tried and it crashed, that will put all the settings to minimum.
It then runs fine but with blocky graphics, so then gradually increase settings. There are some very high screen res settings available that still cause the game to crash, but I guess these were not available or common when the game was written.
I can easily play it now on settings far higher than the old machine that I last played it on, apart from the screen setting which is only 1152 x 864 every other setting is on maximum.
Also can play it on battery power with quite low battery management settings which adapts the CPU and graphics to the demand upon them, so a decent time without plugging in power supply.
HTH if anyone else is struggling, I'm no techie and if it works for me.
