CSS and TF2 hangs for a certain time

    Greetings everyone

Currently i have two issues with W7 64bit:

First issue with CSS: when walking around the screen would freeze for about 2 seconds and then resume, this could happen once every 5 mins

Second issue with TF2: this is a confusing one, when playing TF2 the game would freeze(picture and sound) and the game wont resume unless i press cntrl+alt+del and choose run the taskbar, then clicking on TF2
icon would open the game and resume it(so its not crashed), however, if i just wait while the screen is hanging nothing would happen, i should do the cntrl alt del trick to make it resume, this could happen randomly once
    every 2 to 10 mins

    PC Spec:

    CPU Type QuadCore Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2400 MHz (9 x 267)
    System Memory 4GB (DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM)
Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX (768 MB)
    Driver Version 8.16.11.9062 - nVIDIA ForceWare 190.62

    Thanks in advance :)

Hello Jacob, I too had small issues with CS and TF2. one thing you can try is to make sure you have the newest drivers for your sound card. I have seen in the past steam give some small problems due to outdated drivers. Try that and let me know.

    Hey there Dark,

I updated my headphone(plantronics DSP550) but the problem still exist, sound card was already updated to the latest driver, i tried removing the headphone and see if its the cause of this but the problem remained, i updated my wireless and network cards and still the same.. im really confused now, used to run these smoothly with XP

Ok the next thing to check since you are using wireless is to see if your wireless router supports ip6 if not turn ip6 off on your wireless card that could be slowing things down.

also i would like to mention the way i installed these games, before installing a fresh copy of W7 i backed up my steamapps folder, and when i installed steam in W7 i copied the old steamapps folder into the new steam folder and then steam detected the games and just installed them instead of downloading them then installing, could this way cause this issue ?

Not sure for other companies' games, but for Valve games such as CSS, HL2, DODS etc, you can make a back up using the Steam client : in Steam, go to My Games tab, right click on Counter Strike Source for instance and choose Backup Game Files, and follow further instructions and prompts.
This procedure is very simple, no need to manually copy the folders or anything, this creates a one file packed version of the game and crates an exe file to run in order to restore the backup (kinda like how Acronis True Image makes an image of a partition that is stored in one big compressed file).

What is great about this is that the next time you want to reinstall the game, say on a freshly installed windows, there is no need to install the game from the cd or re-download it all over again, just install Steam, and then start the Steambackup.exe file (kinda like an auto-run app) that will give you an option to restore the fully installed game back in no time.
