At the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference...

I have played both MMO and fps games with my MMO mouse and that mouse has been perfect, while i don't need all the buttons for fps, i just don't use them, they have never got in the way.

Especially when you can be almost guaranteed that an expansion will be released making all that work pretty much meaningless even in game.
Saying it like that makes it sound like a job, it comes down to the kind of game that people like to play. The +2 may be something that people are looking to get but it's not a chore, they are having fun... thats the point of the game.

I have a big multi buttoned mouse and like i said earlier, i have stopped gaming however i wouldn't change the mouse as i have made use for the buttons in windows.

You know I thought my wireless would cut it too, until battlefield 3.
Too much weight ...small corrections are made much more difficult by this.
and the time it takes to hit the dpi button is about the amount of time it takes to die.

Whatever works for you at the end of the day I suppose.

I'm defiantly with you on the weight but also size, let me explain (very simple really lol)

My MMO mouse is big and my whole palm pretty much rests on it so i can move it very quickly and precisely.

My other mouse (wireless nano type mouse {logitech but model has worn off}) is very small so the fatty part of the palm (fatty part = the bit at the bottom of your thumb ) rests on the desk creating friction which was a right pain.

And this is basically my point.
Even lower end opticals than that I just like having the five buttons because it's what I've had for nearly a decade now. Not that it really matters the way things are going soon I'll be standing in my living room holding imaginary guns or just holding my finger to a screen.

The only thing I've really noticed high dpi mice doing is necessitating the deactivation of the 'pointer precision' option to work properly.

I can't use anything over 1800 dpi - anything higher and it's a mega pita to use regardless of game type/task.

I would have gone for public execution, but humiliation works too

I feel your pain and frustration Magus. I too have sworn off wireless mice. Most of the wireless "gaming" mice you see around are designed specifically for MMO players. Response times can be a little higher, and they can afford the occasional hiccup in the connection. For RTS and FPS gamers, wireless simply will not cut it.

My previous mouse (which is still being used by my brother 4 years after I purchased it) is a Razer Lachesis. I currently use a Razer Naga, and it has been going strong for a year now. I am primarily an MMO player, but I do spend a decent amount of time playing BF3, and Tribes:Ascend. The extra buttons are fantastic for macros while playing MMOs, and it has the responsiveness that is needed for FPS type games.
