Diablo III Beta - Laptop Graphics

    Hi all:

Anyone playing the D3 beta and using a laptop equipped with switchable graphics? I'm wondering if this is causing any problems or if you are able to get the game to recognize the dedicated gaming card.

I just bought an Acer with the following specs and am hoping it will run the game decently:

    Acer i5 2.4 GHz
    8GB memory
Integrated Intel 3000 graphics card (Power Saver)
Dedicated 2GB AMD Radeon HD 6650m (High Performance)

    Thanks

So I guess I'll answer my own post and hope it helps others who may have the same question later!

I played this weekend with the open beta. Game seemed to recognize the "High Performance" card as it defaulted all my video settings to High with the exception of Shadows which defaulted to Medium.

Game ran like a champ for the most part graphically and looked beautiful. Can't wait for final release!

    One thing:

I was having very brief but annoying periodic freezes. This seemed to trigger when something in the game triggered such as an enemy spawn, NPC activation, etc. I found an entire thread on the D3 forums about this and am tracking it. I'm thinking it may be a memory issue. My laptop only has 4 gigs of ram vs. the initial 8 I thought it came with. Will keep this thread updated with that as well in case it helps someone else.

    Hi,

I have Sony vaio with the exact same graphic cards, and I'm having the freeze problems! How did you resolve it?
Could you please tell me where to find the thread on diablo 3's website.

    Many thanks

You could try putting more RAM into your machine. I also have 4 gigs, and GTA4 is such a memory hog that it uses up most of it while playing. It's nuts! lol

RAM shouldn't be an issue if you have 4GB and a 2GB dedicated Card.

Sorry mixed up the posts from the original poster. Do you have 4GB or more Ram?

I have 4gb in mine and D3 runs smooth. I would suggest updating the graphics card drivers. Blizzard implements new graphics tech as it is available and some updates can cause you to need to update your drivers to use certain functionality.

Can you give us some more info on the other specs for your computer?

Also I agree Richard, my wifes computer has only 2GB and it is sloooooooow on D3. (its a mac too though so that might be a factor)

Also, if this is a hard freeze where the whole computer locks up, I would be worried about this being a heat issue (maybe)

    2.7 GHz processor
    8 GB ram
    window 7 pro 64-bit

I contacted VAIO's (my laptop's make) support and they said my graphic card is updated. I also made sure I updated everything else (BIOS, bluetooth, usb 3.0...) and the game still freezes!!
