I recently bought a new Pc with Win7 HP and a Nvidia GTX 470.

I'm having a lot of the issues described by others in this thread. My game runs VERY smoothly, but crashes every 5 minutes and I loose the ability to walk every 30 seconds (returning to the main menu solves this). Can anybody tell me which drivers i should use concerning my graphics card, etc.? Any additional tips are appreciated as i don't know all that much about...all this stuff!

I also did everything described here: KOTOR 1+2: Vista Fix & Windows 7 Report - LucasForums

    Nothing changed at all.

I got Kotor working without any gameplay issues but it's having trouble loading (I used the line of code: Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1) whenever i try to generate a new character (i made 2 while i was testing the suggestions) the game goes to the first one I made while still in the tutorial area and the tutorial npc isn't around so i can't get past the jedi/sith part. Also for some reason I can only load autosaves and the load freezes whenever I try something else but the game is still working (no issues quitting out of it)

If you use a nocd crack on the update, it should work for most people.

ALSO: Don't switch through portraits on character create quickly, it crashes the game.

I sort of stumbled across this thread, and i think i may have an answer for many of you who are crashing in game. With the latest patch 1.03 (latest being somewhat of a misnomer), they added a command line into your config file that solved all of my crashing problems.

    [Graphics Options]
    Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1

If you do not have this command line in your config file, add it. If you have it, but it is set to zero, set it to 1.

For those who don't know how to add this, just open your config file, found in your KotOR folder, with something like Notepad. Scroll down until you come to the section labeled [Graphics Options] and look for that command line. I believe when i had to fix this error, i needed to add the line entirely.

Prior to that, my game was crashing every few minutes, and it was absolutely impossible to get past the Bridge in the opening act. I think what the problem stems from the games old design, and new graphic cards not needing Buffer Objects. Therefore, every time your card comes across one, it causes an error.

Either way, i've been crash free since adding this to my config file. Hope it helps those of you running it in 7.
I tried this. Didn't work. Tried running in XP compatibility mode and as administrator. Also didn't work. All that happens when I try to run the game is the Ebon Hawk screen pops up and it gives the error 'SWKOTOR has stopped working. Windows can check online etc.' It doesn't even reach the main menu. The game simply doesn't start.

    Got it to work

I have windows 7 home premium and had been trying for days to get the kotor 1 to work. I tried everything under the sun, including nearly every tip from all over the place.

The things that did help was getting the most recent driver updates

But more importantly in the program files for kotot I changes the compatability for every single application in there to work run on windows xp service pack 2 compatability and ticked the last three options ( disable visual themes, disable desktop composition, and disable display scalingon high DPI ). I did this through properties and did it for every single application in the folders. It seems to run ok now (not perfect mind you - the main character has a tendency to stop moving on occasion but by saving and coming back it comes back ?).

Think the problem revolves around new video hardware that is much more powerful than the game was designed to handle.

    hope that helps anyone

    Still nothing

Hey guys, I have been trying to get KOTOR 2 to work on my windows 7 64 bit machine. When I initially installed it, it worked completely fine. But recently I deleted and re-installed my video driver, and now every time I try to launch the game, an error comes up saying that it experienced a problem, and crashes. I have tried every fix I have come across, including but not limited to: Mss32.dll replacement, updating to version 1.0b, running in compatibility mode for windows xp SP2, 3, vista service pack 2, and as administrator, I have tried changing the values in the notepad configuration, and still nothing. Any ideas would be very helpful. Thanks.

Mss32.dll is memory issue check the video driver you installed again
    what Mobo,? what memory?
what graphix card are you running?
did you reinstall motherboard drivers before reinstalling your older video driver check bios
check all these again and try it again also load
rivatuner it should work after that
