I tried it and just didn't like it. Loved the idea of targeting, but overall it didnít impress me much.

Yeah, don't know what it is, but people seem to hate actually moving around and participating in combat.. apparently creating 10 step macros that instantly kills things is more fun somehow...

I'll be playing the game until it dies though, definitely better than any of the other 2 dozen mmo's I've tried.

And stop comparing it to c9...
they are nothing alike.

The combat style is decent, however endgame is the same dead horse being beat with what I have to assume is a splinter by now. GvG battles are fun...until the GM of a guild with four times your numbers decides he does not like something you said. Then its camp fest until the timer runs out on the war.

I do hope developers break this cycle of WoW clones some time soon. They fail to realize that WoW was a once in a lifetime success story, the content of the game is NOT what made it so successful. The success came from marketing a consumer/hardware friendly game that could allow you to connect with people from around the world. (Before you grab your torch and pitchforks...I understand that WoW was not the first true MMO, however it is the first and ONLY MMO to reach such a large number of subscribers, and generate more than 5 Billion in subscription revenue.)

The bottom line is the developers can not continue to churn out the same old MMO template and expect that the revenue will support future content development and server costs. It simply will not happen unless they can produce something truly innovative.

PVP in mmo's is retarded... always has been always will be.
Argue it until you're blue in the face but I've never participated in a 'epic battle' it's always one side has the upper hand by such a noticeable amount it's not really interesting. ...being on either side of it for me.

They've already added two additional new instances for endgame and more are on the way.
They've also implemented a butt load of customizations for armor and gear.
Also special items obtainable through achievements.
The game is still growing, and it has pretty much zero real bugs all the problems are minor.
People don't seem to remember when WoW the 'big giant' was released it didn't work at all.
Most people didn't start playing until a couple of years later... this game may be the same might take some time to really catch on, but I really don't see it dying.

I'm comparing it to both the pay to play and the free 2 play mmo's I've tried over the years and I really do think it's the best concept so far. They do seem intent on constant expansion and updates. They've already added a new blank spot on the maps which I'm assuming will be an entire new area after a future update.

They have also said they do not plan on charging additionally for any of the added content.
Though there are a few appearance things you can buy with real world money... to be perfectly honest they aren't any better than what you can earn or create in game.

What is this about mmo template? everytime someone has tried to break it at all the game has failed horribly.
People want a completely open world but without some structure there is no story there is no real meaningful content at all.

Agreed on most MMOs failing at PvP, however there is always an exception that proves the rule. Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning was that exception, server populations were roughly 50/50, scenario wins were 45/55 in favor of whichever side had won the city battles the week before. They had a fantastic game going, until EA stepped in and completely destroyed the balance.

I know that WoW had major issues at launch, I played from launch for 4 years before retiring my account. I'm not saying all games need to be perfect from launch.

Just that if they want to compete, they need to be nearly flawless simply because people have a tendency to compare all new launches to WoW. WoW will win hands down in terms of polish to the game/engine and graphics every single time. I know it took a while for subscriptions to explode, roughly a year and a half after launch the game had 3 million subs, peaking at 11 million with the launch of Burning Crusade. It now sits at around 8 million worldwide.

-Recycled idea with a new name. (WoW, SWTOR, WHO, AoC)

-These instances have been in circulation for a year. All they are doing is voice overs for the Korean version and having to make small tweaks to "westernize" the game. What happens when the content pool dries up? When they are forced to create new content instead of repackaging the Korean instances? Western gamers burn through content a lot faster than eastern gamers do. To quote something I recently read(it may be in this thread somewhere) They enjoy the stick more than the carrot.

The MMO template I speak of is the cookie cutter: tab target, roll face on keyboard, pray to the RNG gods, rinse and repeat game play. SWTOR and Allods Online are recent examples. SWTOR had a HUGE budget, instead of using that windfall to be innovative, they spent it on voice acting for each individual quest. The core of these games is the same. The only change is the graphics, classes are renamed/recycled. Tera is an exception in its targeting system, however the basics are still under all those pretty graphics.

As an example, take the paper/pencil world of Shadowrun. A blend of technology, steel, and mysticism. Better yet, look at any White Wolf produced RPG. These may be paper and pencil, but they contain elements that would be easily transformed into an online experience, and could break the mold.

Could you give me some examples of games in the last 5 years that have tried to break the basic mold? I have seen none that attempted to move away from this playstyle.(This does not mean they are not out there, just that I have not seen any. Read: This is not an attack on you Magus, I am truly interested!)

Perhaps I am asking too much from the developers, I can not pretend to know how they could incorporate innovation and package it appropriately to achieve a moderate level of success.

So what about the Nexus?

Anyhow, it's quite obvious you are dead set against the game so I'll stop trying to change your mind.

Then again I guess we're even have a friend that is a warhammer fan and he simply never shuts up about it.

...and my point in outlining all those features is how long exactly was WoW around before it had all that? 5 years? 6?
This game launches with all of it.

I apologize if my post sounded like an attack Magus, that was not my intent at all.
I am not dead set against the game, that was me thinking/typing out loud more than anything else.

True, WoW did not have those features until quite recently. But most of what you mentioned has become standard for MMOs. The point I was trying to make is that Tera really is not all that innovative.

I truly hope you enjoy the game! After all, games are meant for entertainment, if you're not having fun, why play?

There isn't a lot left to innovate let's be honest, like I said attempts at open sandbox have generally failed.
...and granted I quit wow before cataclysm, but I don't know where everyone gets this 'there is not endgame content' thing from Tera.
All the stuff you expect is there no enormous raid instances, but to be perfectly honest fighting with 25 people for gear was kind of stupid anyway.
Battlegrounds will open up soon enough, but like I was hinting at earlier. I've seen mmo pvp to be little more than a outlet for e-bullies.

The nexus concept is a bit like the rifts in rift. Endgame level creatures basically spill out of them (though they are different from any of the other monsters in the game) and it's been pretty fun putting groups together to tackle the nexus. It's still stress testing right now, but it'll be a regular part of the game soon. Also there are already a ton of rewards and special vendors set up around it too.
