    Anyone playing TERA?

Anyone checked this game out yet? I got to play for a little while last night. The graphics are pretty stunning at 5760x1080 with full eye candy. The races leave a little to be desired, and are a little too cookie cutter anime IMO. Frankly I'm am absolutely sick of playing World of Warcraft clones. While this game is a step in the right direction, it is far from the major overhaul this genre needs.

That being said, the true action aspect of this game appeals to the FPS player in me, and the community appeals to the MMORPG player in me as well. It may be a fun distraction until The Secret World is released in June of 2012.

I tried it and just didnt like it. Loved the idea of targeting, but overall didnt impress me much. It did look good though.

I recently started playing RIFT again, and much has changed. I find it to be better than TERA, but not sure I'll stick with it either.

Isn't GW2 coming out soon? Bit interested in that :)

GW2 is out some time this summer I would think, I just got done playing the beta this last weekend and had a lot of fun and the game was great but it seems that the game is still maybe a couple of months away from going gold

I am just guessing maybe an end of June or July release for GW2

I played the Terra beta and it was pretty fun but not enough fun IMHO to pay a subscription monthly to play the game

I have played GW2 beta, Rift, and Tera and I am going to stick with Tera due to the skill requirement to be successful in PvP and PvE. No other MMO has challenged me like Tera has. I am a PvP'r by nature and I typically frown upon PvE but the combat system in Tera is so different and very fun. The fact that you actually have to be pro-active during boss fights is a plus to me.
I personally have been looking for a skill based MMO since the vanilla Age of Conan days.
I played Rift for only a couple of months before quitting because the combat system was typical and boring, just like 90% of the MMO's on the market at this time.
I also tried GW2 beta and within a hour I found myself emailing ArenaNet requesting my money back. The combat is the same old typical (no skill required) tab-targeting combat that most MMO's offer.
Everyone plays MMO's for different reasons and I personally play for PvP. With that said, I also feel that combat functionality is equally important. If the a MMO utilizes a lame combat system, then that particular MMO will not hold my interest.
Also consider the fact that 80% of the time a player spends in a MMO they are usually engaging in some type of combat. If the current MMO you are playing offers the same repetative combat that the last MMO you played offered, then where's the fun in that? In essence, it's like playing the exact same MMO with a different skin.

My major issue with RIFT as well. I like it, but i think Im simply burned out on MMOs. Im not sure wht TERA didnt grab me. Perhaps a second look may be in order.

Unbalanced PvP is really starting to annoy me.
-Getting two shot by Berserkers is starting to get really old. I know they move incredibly slow, but the damage they can dish out if they catch you is ridiculous.
-Lancers are impossible to take down if they have a healer.
-If the healer happens to be a priest, you pray that the zerker on your team isnt terrible, because that's the only way you have a fighting chance.

    TL;DR Rock beats paper...

PvE is terribly easy from what I've experienced so far. I hope endgame content is not as simple.

    .
This doesnt much surprise me. Many MMOs have had a balance issue with PVP.
EQ2 ATM so broken its no fun.

In RIFT, Warrior are insanely OP. Just a PVP BG and out of 12 people 6or
7 are Warriors (usually just riftstorming) and the rest are offensive Clerics.

Would love to something come out that had some good balance to it, because PVP is certainly a blast.
I dont mind dying in PVP, but when awarrior runs up stuns and 1 shots you ... wheres the fun in that?
Not only that but same move over and over. Just Spam the I Win button and run around.

LOL, I actually made a Warrior in RIFT to see how it was. And it truly was that easy. Only really needed 2 or 3 abilities on the hotbar.

There is an extremely simple solution to balanced PVP without adversely affecting PVE. Seperate skill trees completely. Three trees for PVE, three for PVP. This would allow for full balance in pvp without screwing over specific skill trees for PVE.

The Secret World has gotten it right with two aspects so far: Three factions, and NO classes. Any player can switch from melee, to a healer, to a tank as often as they wish. This should break flavor of the month classes, and allow players to really pick and choose their own play style. This also stops the vicious cycle that is PVP in modern MMOs: class is overpowered and can not be fixed, nerf it into the ground until you have time to rebalance it. Effectively making max ranked characters useless in both PVP and PVE until you decide to fix them. (Which often causes a drop in subscriptions)

I'm enjoying tera way more than any other mmo I've ever played.

I really have to ask are you sure we were playing the same game?

...or were you just wussing out and avoiding all the challenging fights?
