Tera - it may actually be worth it

Been playing this for about a week now. So far I'm very impressed with the combat system which IS different from any other mmo I've ever played.
Namely with timing and positioning you can actually dodge attacks, not everything is decided by ridiculous mathematical equations.

Graphics are good to great as well. Many of the other things work the way you expect a mmo to work. One major exception is you can master all forms of crafting/ production with any character. You aren't limited to just one or two. You are also able to gather all forms of resource, even if you are a low level you have a possibility of gathering high level resources (it may take 30 tries though) Instead of completely locking you out of them like many other mmo's I have tried.
Instances are much more interesting because of the way the combat system works. Dodges and blocks are up to your input I really am loving this combat system.

Anyhow I attached a couple of random screens of my female warrior and male priest characters. (they're both high elf though there are some much crazier looking races)

Also unreal engine, so it runs really smooth and looks great.
Should probably also note AA wasn't even on when I took these screens hard to get good stills like that usually.

Looks really nice. Especially since AA wasn't on, that is just ridiculous.

I honestly haven't played TERA yet, but Good Game will be reviewing it soon (Good Game is a Aussie show that reviews games... AND places in a guessing game and puts in Gamer news), and so far by the pics you put up and the review you gave it, it currently makes me want to buy it (when and IF it comes out down here)... but the graphics look pretty modern to the online games that I have played.

Another thing I forgot to mention about resources, is if you are in a party, the entire party can hit the one resource node at once and everyone gets something. I thought this was a nice touch as I've seen people fighting over them in other games.

...and as for the graphics yeah it's a good sign when they can use the game engine for cut-scenes instead of having to add video... It's a 25 gig dl as it is.

Though just running around on the beginner island you start to get an idea why that is. Many of the monsters have complex modeling.

Sadly most the youtube videos are two years old and from the korean version which honestly doesn't have a lot in common with the english version. A lot was changed, graphics update included.

There's no way in hell I would install a game that's 25 gigabytes (or download it). Seriously, 25 gigs? No way, jose.

What would cause it to take so much space? Got 110 GB freespace, if the game was worth it, I would. However, it requires 35GB, not 25: Tera - Windows

The trailer was a bit cheesy, but the game does look good.

My dragon age orgins install with all the dlc is 24gbs whats the problem lol I just left it downloading while I was sleeping and in the morning it was done. Said it took 6 hours downloading through steam. Also for those of you who are planing on buying Max Payne 3, the specs says it will need at least 35gbs of hard drive space. Probably because the files are not compressed and such thus resulting in better visuals.

If you want the large textures and huge world, you are going to have large filesize on disk.

See this is why devs can't win. They don't make the world big or varied enough people complain.. swtor
They do everything right and they are going to wind up with a huge texture/model pack.
Then you're going to complain about size on disk.

Making this combat system work I'm sure was not easy as well. They've pulled it off very nicely though.
With the right timing on my dodges even my healer has a chance of solo'ing 'elites'. In past games I've played that would be nearly impossible as you don't dodge the attacks they just hit you or not based on a math equation.
It's that additional challenge factor I like. I like feeling that my input actually means something.

The big draw IS the combat system as it IS completely different from any other mmo I've played.

Been playing Tera for a couple of weeks now and I can easily say that it's the most fun that I have ever had in a MMO.
The "skill based" combat system is a blast and really does keep the player interested, especially during PvE.
I'm a PvP'r by nature but I even consider the PvE palatable in this game due to the (very involved) combat system.
I see myself playing this game for a long time.
