Homefront "You have been disconnected from steam" error

Whenever i try to access the homefront multiplayer it wont work. once i click on multiplayer in the title it pops up as a screen that says "you have been disconnected from steam" i tried everything from getting a new router(my old one was 6 years old and barely works) to reinstalling the game but nothing has worked.

here is the screenshot if you want to see:

How long has this been going on for? If it started recently, then it could be a problem with a recent patch. I know CS:S screwed up like that for me for a bit, and then it fixed itself with the following patch.

have you tried updating the game to the latest patch and did you activate your game on steam with the key given to you?

Well for different games you apply the patches differently. Most of the time it will either be an .exe that you run, and it may have to be in the same folder as the game, or if they are random files and there is no .exe, then you probably have to put them into the same folder as the game so that they get overridden. If neither of those work, then there should be some sort of readme for how to patch it.
