Perhaps corrupt drivers? the first thing I do when this happens is... download a fresh copy of video and audio drivers, uninstall the current ones, clean registry and install new ones.

If that doesn't cure the problem, I start worrying from there

    Installed brand new new drivers...

This only affects Crysis btw. Crysis 2, which I am playing too is fine. All other games are fine too. In fact everything is fine, just not Crysis...

that's a sound driver error, it appears it may happen when DTS is enabled and no DTS device is there to process it, have you bought a new headset recently? or similar device to do with audio?

Also, is a GTS250 capable of playing Crysis? I remember how much Crysis held my system back, whereas the next instalment and Crysis 2 didn't give me a single problem.

Mr Needs, I have been using the same headphones for the last 12 years. Can't think of anything sound-wise that may have caused this.

Astalavista, the GTS250 plays it fine. Not on maximum settings but throttle back and there's no problem. And you're right... Warhead and Crysis 2 were/are way easier on the system...

The error points to a sound problem, uninstalling and installing fresh new drivers should have cured it... are you sure you installed correctly?

Did you try also reinstalling the game?

    Sorry, I am stumped!

Edit: I am assuming you patched the game to the latest version as well?

Er... uhm... let me double check that...

Still, its seems weird that it played perfectly and then out of nowhere started to give me problems...
