    Pcsx2 0.9.6 beta

    SF

I hope that posting news about emulators is allowed...here goes (mods delete if necessary)

PCSX2 is the final BETA of the best Playstation 2 emulator out there. If you are like me who owns a PS2 and games but would like the play them on the PC than this is for you. The emulator is not illegal if you use a BIOS from your PS2 and your games. Let me also stress if you want to use the emulator than only high-end machines or above here as it can be one hell of a stress test on a PC

    From their homepage:

A lot is going on behind the scenes these days so without further ado here's our news:

    • PCSX2 has a brand new GUI in development! We will be using wxWidgets for cross-platform compatibility and speedier dev cycles. However it won't be ready for beta for some time. For further info read the blog titled Measuring the Benefits of wxWidgets
    • A Final beta has been released using the current PCSX2 GUI. It has tons of improvements over the old one, mainly on microVU which is now almost complete. Get it from our downloads section.
    • First time we release a Linux beta, courtesy of Arcum42, found in the above link as well.
    • Blog posts now allow user comments in our forum! Discussions surrounding the development part of PCSX2 are going strong in the new forum
    • Major work on the site even if you can't see it. New Guide page, updated About, updated Contact, all pages XHTML valid, Compatibility list filter/go button fixed and cross-browser compatibility.
    • New, extremely detailed Compile Wiki, courtesy of n1ckn4m3.
    • New forum plugins, added recaptcha 2 for spam protection, auto image resizing, users browsing thread and favorite icon. Fixes for the Dark theme, which should now look perfect in all browsers

    Visit pcsx2.net for further details

I downloaded Pcsx2 a while ago to play Metal Gear Solid, but I'd prefer to stick with my nostalgic memory of it, as it's easy to forget just how long ago some of the classics were made, and are frustratingly annoying to try and play now.

I didn't think PCSX2 played original PS games...if it does than all the better

BTW ePSXe smashes any emulator that even thinks it can play PSX games into the ground. With 16xQ Antiliasing and a host of other enhancements...a PSX game could look entirely different

i have use pcsx2, and it is indeed a marvelous little emulator. despite the HW requirments, there were a few games that ran pretty well for me. i only wish i had a beefier PC, as i still have a few disks laying around. duel core, do more .
it's cool they finally had an update. 0.9.5 was around forever, and that was pretty good.
    thanks for the info Z.

If you thought .9.5 was great...than .9.6 will blow you away. I haven't had the chance to do some really good tweaking yet but KH2 and FFXII work beautifully in the emulator now

I was doing a bit of research and the last version was 1.51 in May 2007. They claim that they are affiliated with no company and what not but who knows

Actually I did more research and found out that Bleem!? only developed the Bleem emulator (not Snes9x). Sony sued them and they won...but in a twist of cruel fate Bleem went out of business due to the fact that they couldn't pay the court fees. Their lasting legacy though was the fact that emulators finally had their day in court and won in the war to shut them down

bleemcast, play PSX on dreamcast.... it was stupid :P i guess since DC only had a handful of good games, some of the 900+ good PS1 games would be cool to play on it.

any case, back to pcsx2. i haven't had a run with the new one yet, but if its as good as you say it is Z, im stoked. i just have to exhume my ps2 games from the giant box'o'junk in the closet .

I keep my copy of KH2 out just as a reminder that (in my opinion) good ideas can still be implemented in games post PSX era. Honestly I would love to know who had the idea of mixing Disney characters and Square-Enix characters...brilliant.

Some (or most) would differ in opinion on that but that is why we have different genres of games to begin with
