Haha, well I suppose it is compatible in the sense that it does work on some Windows 7 installations, it's just very buggy. The 'solution' linked on that page is a patch for after the game is installed, it doesn't help if the game won't install in the first place.

And yes, I'm using Windows 7 SP1 with all the updates.

I've also tried disabling my antivirus software but that didn't help either.

I'm reluctant to start hacking the operating system as others have had to do. I'd rather not run the game than mess up a functioning Windows installation.

But I don't think I'll ever buy another game from Bungie again.

Yeah I wouldn't want to mess with my operating systems files either.Just leads to problems like crashes and bsod's and so on. I don't know what other thing could fix this this is a very rare issue and I Google searched this and found 3 people with the same problem but no solution since I was running out of ideas.I was hoping I could find you a solution but I haven't found one or been able to think of what else you could try.The only other thing I could think of is to explore the cd's contents and try to install it from in there by clicking on the startup launcher and running as admin or making a seconded temporary windows 7 admin profile and try installing from in there but idk if it will work,if I can think of anything else I'll post it.

You could also try using Nero (or another burning program), and try to make an image file and use that in Daemon Tools. It's what I do with all of my CD's DVD's when I get them. I'm not putting my disc in the drive every time I'm playing it. But this might help you.
