How do I install Heroes of Might and Magic on Windows 7?

I'm having this problem when I try to install Heroes of Might and Magic 2 or 3 on my Windows 7 computer.

So my prob is that when I press Autorun it pops up that window with Instal, Play and so on clickers, and None of the buttons work. The window disappears after I press any of them. Any ideas?

Somehow I was about to install Heroes 1.

As far as specs I have a Lenovo Thinkpad. Windows 7 64 bit processor. 4 GB of Ram. Hopefully that's enough info for you to give me a clear answer. Please help. I really want to play this cool game again.

PS Does anyone know how to play any of the Heroes (1,2, & 3) online??? I would like to play against my brother who is out of state. Thank you.

As I replied to your post in my guide....

And "if" you're talking about Hero's of Might and Magic 2 & 3

Heroes of Might and Magic II - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (released 1996)

Heroes of Might and Magic III - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (released 1999)

I'm not even sure those can be run on Windows 7, especially the 64-bit version. According to this Windows 7 Compatibility for hero's of might and magic 2: Drivers, Updates, Downloads only V is compatible with Windows 7.
Are you talking about those games?

If so, I'm not sure either of them will install on Windows 7 as the games are so old that they seem to be incompatible with 7. There may be some hack online to get them to install but I wouldn't know as I don't play those games.

However - have you looked at step 16 of my guide: Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues

16 - Compatibility Mode – Compatibility mode allows older games or programs that worked under earlier versions of Windows to run in Windows 7 (maybe). If you find you’re having a hard time running or installing the game, give compatibility mode a try. See this tutorial on running in Compatibility Mode.
Try giving that step a try and see if it works.

    Let me know.

    This worked for me

I know this thread is long dead, but I was having the same problem, and I figured out how to install HOMMIII on a 64-bit Windows 7 machine. I installed HOMM3 in a virtual machine running 32-bit Windows XP and simply copied the C:/Program Files/3DO/Heroes 3 folder back onto the host machine. I didn't bother with the registry entries, but you could bring those over too if you want. I installed the Wake of Gods add-on and everything works great.

Running HOMM3 out of a virtual machine (like VirtualBox) is always an option too. I think HOMM3 will run in Linux with Wine if you don't have access to a Windows XP ISO.

Again, well aware this is ancient but this is the method I used to get Heroes 2 to install on a 64 bit operating system years ago.

You should probably check the games out on GOG, or atleast the forums over there. Not completely sure if I am allowed to link to another forum but here goes; Heroes of Might and Magic series - Forum - GOG.com

We do it all the time as long as it's not spam, piracy or the likes.

And yeah, GOG is a good site as I've linked to it myself.

    Peace
