MAJOR FPS Drops in Test Drive Unlimited 2

    Hey everyone,
So I recently got Test Drive Unlimited 2 on my Dell XPS 17 and its ridiculous how I can only manage to get 15 FPS in the game. The game lags so much even if I change the graphics to the lowest settings. I checked if my laptop could run this game on Can You RUN It | Can I run that game | Game system requirements and i passed the recommend settings aswelll but I can't seem to be getting more than 15 FPS.

    My Specs;
    Dell System XPS L702X
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2860QM CPU @ 2.50GHz (8 CPUs), Turbo boost upto 3.50GHz
    6 GB DDR3
    nVidia 555M 3GB
    1 TB HDD

The 555M isn't a 'powerful chip' but you should be getting better than 15 FPS. Use an app like GPU-Z to check whether the game is actually using the GPU and not the integrated GPU. You can also use the nvidia control panel to check which GPU it's set to use.

Even with lowest settings, do the frames go up if you lower the resolution?

Also do you have the latest drivers installed?

Do you have any other games, if so how they perform?

it isn't powerful as you said but it can run Arkham City with everything on max as smooth as 35FPS easily without any problem. I just don't get why its lagging on Test Drive Unlimited 2 ? I mean its not that high in graphics anyway. I did check the nVidia control panel to see if my nVidia GPU is being used and it said it was being used by TDU2. My onboard intel HD graphics card wasn't involved in running the game.

I do have the latest drivers installed aswell.

    I have-
    Arkham City
    Arkham Asylum
    Bad Company 2
    Dead Island
    GTA IV
    Mafia II
    and so on...

ALL of them run extremely smoothly its just TDU2..

    Thanks!

    Hmm.

Is TDU2 fully patched? Or at least partially? From memory it ran like a dog until a particular update which smoothed things out a little.

Do your frames increase when on backroads etc (basically away from the 'city' sections?) Or is a flat 15FPS no matter where you are?

One thing at least worth looking at:
Increase FPS on PC | Test Drive Unlimited 2 Blog

Have a fiddle with the audio options as well - like making sure it's at 44khz, checking the in game audio options etc.

Realistically it's a badly optimized port, but it's bound to be one the 'bugs' holding you back. Unfortunately it's hard to say 'which one'.

You can also adjust some of the settings for TDU2's profile in the nvidia control panel. (Manage 3d Settings>Program settings. If TDU2 isn't in the list, Select Add and point it to the .exe)

Adjust settings from 'quality' to 'performance'
set the max pre rendered frames to 0
    Triple buffering to 'On'

Otherwise a trawl through http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=246 might find a fix for you.

    Fingers crossed.
