Weird frequent stuttering problem on new laptop when playing games
Hello everyone. I am very concerned as to what is wrong with my laptop because it is not even a year old yet. I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. Also, I am uncertain of what is causing the problem.
I used to play Portal, The Sims 3, and Fallout 3 on my laptop with no issues. Recently, I've been having the strangest issue...
I first noticed it when playing Minecraft about a month ago when my little brother wanted me to try it. It was fine at first, but seemingly after every 20 minute interval, the game would go through extreme stuttering and slow to a crawl, making it literally unplayable for maybe 20 seconds. If sound was playing in the background, it would become very distorted and extremely slow as well.
Was I concerned? Not at first. See, I have a switchable graphics card and for some reason it will not allow me to use my better graphics card with Minecraft.
I stopped playing games for a while except for Minecraft and managed to live through the annoying bouts of "unplayableness" every 20 minutes.
Recently, I decided I would play Portal again in addition to Assassin's Creed. Both games are set to run with my better graphics cards. To my horror, the same issue persists in both of these games as well!
Is this a graphics card issue, a processor issue, an issue with Windows itself?
Please, if any of you could help me, I would really appreciate it. As I stated before, this PC is relatively new, and was a gift that costed a lot of money. I would hate to have it die on me now.
