I joined simply to post this potential solution because it pissed me off so much. There are tonnes of solutions involving installing drivers
so I am not going to repeat this process. This solution is for those that have a fake receiver which is installed and recognised by the PC, but the controller is either not connecting or keeps disconnecting. Open up the receiver, I did this by driving a knife in the joint between the 2 peices of casing and prying it open, inside there are 2 small screws unscrew them and remove the circuit board, underneath there is a metal plate not sure what its for, could be a heatsink, could be a counterwieght either way for me that was the problem, removing it an reassembling the case fixed my issue. I bought my receiver over a year ago and have never had it working till now. Hopefully this will resolve other peoples problems aswell... Solution offered in good will and without warranty of course.
