That would be an idea since once you have a new game installed by disk seeing the product key activated to that one account you can always go back and redownload to install when looking the Steam Library tab on the main screen that appears first. Nothing can be ruled out so give it a try.

I'm going to try that and see if it works hopefully it does. I will make me mad if it does and it was that simple but also I'll be happy it actually worked lol

Once you find that works you can always post the results on a Bioshock forum somewhere to let everyone know how to fix it!

It's still a good one for sure since I haven't run into anything like that with any Steam driven titles tried out so far as well as with any other pc game in fact while some simply won't run on the newer Windows or only on the 32bit 7 but not on Vista x86.

Have you tryed to contact steam at all ?

Maybe your Account is being messed with ,I would send them a message about this whole deal if you have before and there so called fix didnt help yuou need to reach out to them again

Sounds like there cloud is having issues syncing to your files properly which isn't saving anything

Im not sure if you are aware of this but not to long ago they were putting a global warning about accounts being compramised so a long shot but worth a shot

I think it is Ridiculous you are having a issue like that when everything you install ran fine otherwise

As I was saying this is certainly an odd one to start with. You've tried wiping everything out for a fresh reinstall and the games still refuse to save. Are you trying to create saves at the start of each level or during game play like half way through a map?

The saves for any and all games Steam or otherwise always see a save as soon as the next level loads. In some saves however I manage to create some interesting custom saves where you work in reverse direction but even those always save the place you start at.

Contacting Steam does however now sound like the best option you have to see what they offer for help with this. I have to agree with Solarstarshines about them likely being the only ones that could find where the problem is.

I had to add this possible cause in as another possibility since I already mentioned the av program being a possible cause. This would be the games being denied the permissions needed on the same idea I previously had on taking ownership over the game's save folder but would apply to each game itself instead.

If you have the Windows firewall on or have another firewall program installed that may be what is tripping things up. You would need to add each game into the Allowed programs list. The firewall would be the thing preventing the game from writing any new save to the drive. Just like you might have to gain user account permissions a firewall would need to be set to have each game allowed those same permissions by way of the exceptions for them.

That's a problem in the game itself then! At first you were mentioning the save from menu not saving. But the auto save not working is software there! Too bad you couldn't contact the game's own software company to find out what's the story with that one!

Don't feel alone with this problem! When running a fast Bing on auto save I ran into another problem thread where someone was seeing with the 64bit Vista back in 2007! BioShock CRASHES at auto-save + game will randomly not start up [Archive] - 2K Games Forums

Here's another for not having a Windows Live account and wanting to save in Bioshock 2 to look at. How do i save bioshock 2 without a windows live account? - Yahoo! Answers

If you dig even further you can look over a thread a lot like this one seen over at the VF as well. BIOSHOCK - unable to save due to "Read Only" errors. - Vista Forums

All I can say is that I tried a demo for the game some time back and am glad I never went for it! The indicators from all these seem to point right back to game coding errors. This is one reason why getting in contact with the game's own software company to put in a support request about this mey yield a patch for the game they may have released.

Well I think I have fixed terraria, dawn of war 2, and company of heroes :) it was a registry error preventing my computer from connecting to the servers for updates. I got it fixed with mrfixit it's a Microsoft registry fixer. Not sure if it fixed bioshock 1 and 2 or borderlands yet tho
