Direct X 10 for Bioshock need help

I am having a problem with freez crashing on Bioshock it doese this mainly when using garden machines . I heard downgrading to direct X 10 is a fix. First you have to uninstall 11 right how do you do that? Bcause the computer wont install a lower version. Can i get a link for direct X 10 for bioshock?

You can't downgrade windows 7 to dx10,windows 7 by default in the OS is dx11.Windows 7 runs dx9 and 10 games fine.Your problem must be something else,do you get any error messages? Also what's your systems specs? Bioshock only runs in dx9 and 10,if it's a steam copy then right click the game in your steam library and click properties then click on set launch options and type -dx9 and then click ok and close it up and try launching the game and try running it in dx9 and see if the problem continues.

When you install a game and it requires specific (lower) DX routines it will install them automatically. Most of the time you get a DirectX prompt for this. This adds the missing files and configuration settings to the required version of DX. Windows 7 totally runs everything on lower DX versions fine. I could even get You Don't Know Jack 4 (I believe from 1998!) to run without any problem.

    hmm i see

Oh thats how that other person downgraded his/her DX steam version. I did not get any prompt on bioshock. However i noticed it installing a DX during installation. Also i assume thats why it changes to 7 basic when launched. Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.120503-2030)
    Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
    System Manufacturer: Gateway
    System Model: DX4320
    BIOS: Default System BIOS
    Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 945 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
    Memory: 6144MB RAM
    Available OS Memory: 6128MB RAM.
    Display Devices
    ---------------
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT
    Manufacturer: NVIDIA
    Chip type: GeForce 9500 GT
Also no its not a steam version its gamefly digital version. So i dont know why this game keeps freeze crashing the error msg i get is bioshock exe has stopped running. Yes i have ran numerouse older games w/o problem. Just running as adminastrator and a compatibility mode helps allot of em not bioshock though

That's because it disables 'Desktop Composition" (disables aero)

Try installing the direct X end user runtimes.

Try it the first way I said it and if that doesn't work try this

You can also change it manually in the bioshock.ini file
    here quote from the site
    source:TweakGuides.com - BioShock Tweak Guide

    "Bioshock.ini

The main purpose of Bioshock.ini is to hold graphics, audio, and gameplay settings.

    [Engine.Engine]

    RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice

This setting determines which API the game uses for graphics, and the only choices are DX9 (D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice) or DX10 (D3DDrv10.D3DRenderDevice10). You can already select these within the game if they're available for your hardware. You cannot force DX10 mode in XP, nor if you don't have a DX10 graphics card in Vista. You also cannot force OpenGL (OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice) mode as this is not supported by the game. Depending on which API is shown as being used here, you should check the relevant section further below as to which rendering settings will apply to the game."

So you would change D3DDrv10.D3DRenderDevice10 to D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice

The bioshock.ini should be in Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Bioshock
Unhide all folders to get the hidden app folder and when your done you can hide it again. This tutorial on seven forums shows you how Hidden Files and Folders - Show or Hide

    thx

Thanks MIGUL31 i got lucky steam was having a sale on bioshock last weekend. $10.00 USD for both games. I went to that box on steam typed in -dx10. I have just arived arcadia not 1 crash so far:) So for steamers its a simple fix for most u assume for this computer anyway. Just that its a wee choppy sometimes. Btw speakin of in-hame play that welding masked guy is a crook he takes most of your ammo! I had all my guns full of ammo. Must make alota players very unhappy especially stocked up. Then have to start over restocking ammo. If i had of known that i wouldnt have bought so much of that ammo i did. Well at least my toon has a full money pocket the regulation max 500 bucks. Hope theres a ammo vendor soon and thats the only time your guns and ammo is takin.

    a short novel.
