FIX - to BSOD/crash/ trying to play Call of Duty MW3 + on Win7 x32.64
Hello everyone, this is for those who are having a problem playing or trying to play Call of Duty MW3 or BF3. I built the same PC for a friend as mine. System consisted of:
Asus Sabertooth 990FX w/ AMD FX 8120 Eight-Core cpu 3.4GHz
8Gb Kingston HyperX Ram
500gb WD HD
Windows 7 Ult x64 (his Win7 Pro x64
Samsung DVD-RW
XFX nVidia Geforce 9600GSO 768 GDDR2 256bit
CoolMaster RS600W power sup
5 Case fans
Story: As many, from what I have see or read online, and my friend, Any other game worked fine. But when he would click on MW3 icon, black screen, blue screen then a reboot would occur. I installed the game on my rig (same as his) and the game would load & play w/ no prob!
Some posted that the vid card drivers were at fault, some blamed the power sup, some check & compared dump files (OMG!) Some said the OS, some claimed an over heated cpu or Gpu, some said the memory and some claimed a defected mobo!
So I swapped his HD into my rig and the game played fine.. I put my HD into his and the game crashed. I then interchanged everything except mobo and pwr sup bcuz everything worked fine except for that game (MW3).
Then after this extensive search, it occurred to me, could the BIOS instructions for his mobo been a later or diff version than mine? YES, it was! His mobo was shipped with an updated "version 0813", and mine had ver 0705.
So I began the process to FLASH his BIOS chip with my version. Downloaded it, Flashed as per instructions and WALA!! The game work without a flaw. This I write in hopes those with the problem may find the solution.
When I looked up the bios versions available, there were 6 versions. Newest one being 1204. As with everything in PCs, I recommend you make a backup of your old BIOS file, in case the upgrade does not work out. In our case, Asus has a BIOS updating prog. It enables you to back up copy of old BIOS. Your mobo should have this as well. If Not, get an Asus..lol.
Happy computing!
