Can't execute .exe file because lack of permission

Hello,

I'm running Windows 7 Premium 64bit.
I am the only user and thus also the administrator.
Now I'm trying to install a game using the .exe, but than I get this error: Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.
I checked, but the security settings seem to be right.
I also tried this solution: Take Ownership Shortcutbut that didn't work either.
Can anyone tell me what the problem is here?

Thanks,
Ferry

Hello Ferry,

If you have not already, see if right clicking on the .exe file and clicking on Run as administrator (elevated) will allow it to install.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

As a test, you might enable the built-in Administrator, log on to it, then try installing the game again to see if it will now.

Where is it trying to install the program at?

Did the error message specify the path of what it didn't have access to?

What did you take ownership of?

This is all I get to see:

That's Dutch for: Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

I took ownership of the folder where the .exe is in.

If not already, try having the .exe file on your desktop, then use run as administrator on it.

If that doesn't help, then double check to see if you have ownership, and had set permissions to have "Full control" for your user account for the .exe file.

Do you have a security program (ex: AV) installed that may be blocking the .exe file?

If so, double check it's quarantine or blocked setting to see if it may, and either unblock it, allow it, or remove it from the list only if you fully trust the .exe file.

Another item to check, is the game made for Windows 7? If not, then you may need to use compatibiliy mode with the Windows version it was made for.
