Saw a problem like this earlier and will give you the same answer as i gave the other guy earlier today with another game but it's the same process. Anyways follow these instructions. and tell me what happens after following my instructions thoroughly.

    M1GU31 said:
Exception code: 0xc0000005 is a memory exemption which means that a application is corrupting and trying to use memory that is already assigned. Thus the application will conflict and cause the application to crash. This is usually caused by something faulty in the memory or the system. The first thing I would do is test my ram sticks to see if there is anything wrong with the ram sticks.

If you have more then one ram stick, for example two 1 gb ram sticks or 2 and so on. Then Turn off your computer and remove one of the ram sticks and then boot and try playing the game. If the game does not crash then something is up with the other stick,if it stills crashes then switch the ram stick with the one you first took out and test again and see if it still crashes. If it does not crash then something is up with the other memory stick. If they both fail then the next thing I would is do a memory test.

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.
Take a look at this guide on how to set it up and run the memory test RAM - Test with Memtest86+

If you get any errors then that is a indication of something wrong with your ram sticks.

Try updating your drivers to the latest WHQL version. If the problem still persist, use the beta drivers. Also make sure that the steam client and all of the Half-Life games are fully updated and that they are not blocked by Windows Firewall.

    Problem fixed!

    First see this:-

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: hl.exe
    Application Version: 1.1.1.1
    Application Timestamp: 3fd11900
    Fault Module Name: serverbrowser.dll_unloaded
    Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0
    Fault Module Timestamp: 42f19fab
    Exception Code: c0000005
    Exception Offset: 0d28e290
    OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1
    Locale ID: 1033

Just see the name of "DLL" file which is causing this error(in my case it is serverbrowser.dll). Search this file in your game directory. You may find 1 or more no. of files. Select its properties and then under Security tab click Edit, click Add. Now enter your username and tick Full Control.
Do this for all DLLs which are causing this error. If you are changing game, instead run the game directly instead of changing. E.g hl.exe -cstrike, instead of going through hl and then Counter strike.

    Hope this helps...:)
