Choppy video/audio on Modern Warfare 2 after SSD install Howdy,
I recently cloned my OS and a few other things to a Samsung 830 128GB SSD. I went back to play MW2 (hadn't in a while) and have problems. If I set the video settings to 'optimal' in the game setup screen, the sound is choppy and there are video 'artifacts' (black lines that go from me to the horizon hopping in and out) and if I set the game to my monitor's native resolution, the FPS goes in the dumper so I can't tell if the sound is buggered still or not (that was a solution that I found online). Previous to the SSD, it worked fine. Drivers for the video card are up to date, even tried the latest beta driver to no avail. Most of my applications are installed on my D drive (always have been), the only thing I migrated from old C: to SSD what what was on C: already (OS, Office, a couple of games and utilities) I'm using about 75% of the available space.
Anyway, if this rings a bell for anyone, please post. I'm going to try running other Steam games esp. the other MW/COD games to see if the problem is more global
Cheers! | My System Specs |

Something went wrong with the cloning or just a matter of corrupt drivers. When you say your drivers are up to date, do we have to assume you updated post transfer? if not... no harm on uninstalling both video and audio drivers and install fresh copies.

I have reinstalled the current driver post transfer, installed beta drivers over that, then rolled back. Audio drivers not reinstalled post transfer. I'll uninstall both and reinstall. Shouldn't be a hardware issue, the system is about as stable as it ever was and I tore it apart and reseated everything (except the CPU) when I added the SSD. Dusted it out really well, etc. Might be that I'll have to reinstall windows and everything else, but we'll see about that. Thanks for the reply, I'll report back with results. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Scratch Built OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Full Retail SP1 CPU Intel Core 2 Quad 2.83GHz LGA775 Motherboard MSI P43 C51 Memory 2x PNY 2GB DDR3 1333 , 2x Crucial 2GB DDR3 1333 Graphics Card ECS GeForce GTS 450 1GB PCIE 2.0 176 Sound Card Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality Monitor(s) Displays Acer X203Wbd 20" Widescreen LCD Screen Resolution 1680X1050 Keyboard Logitech backlit gaming keyboard Mouse Logitech G5 Gaming Mouse PSU Cooler Master 550w RS 550 Case Antec Three Hundred Illusion Mid Tower Cooling 4 120mm fans, Cooler Master Hiper 212 plus CPU cooler Hard Drives Western Digital Caviar WD5000 500GB 7200RPM SATA

Installing over is never a good idea but I hope that it works out for you.
Could it be that when reseated everything, you left something loose? It has happened to me and then, when I go back and re check and re-seat... happiness in the world is back | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Built OS Vista x64 + Windows 7 x64 (Ultimate) CPU Intel Q9650 Motherboard EVGA 780i FTW Memory 8GBs Corsair Dominator 1066Mhz Graphics Card Asus GTX660 (2GBs) + MSI 9600GT (PhysX) Sound Card Onboard Realtek HD Monitor(s) Displays Acer AL2216W Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Keyboard Logitech G15 Mouse Logitech G9 PSU PC Cooling 750w Silencer Case Thermaltake Spedo Advance Cooling CM 8V Hard Drives WD VelociRaptor 300GB

As AstaLaVista mentioned about to re-check everything is seated properly is a good idea but if the problem still exist after re-checking everything than your best bet is to Re-Install everything that will surely remove all doubts and eliminate the issue | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self Built OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Waiting for Haswell Motherboard Waiting for Haswell Memory G.Skill Ripjaws X 2x 2GB DDR3 1333 CL7 Graphics Card Will be next after Haswell Sound Card Built-In Monitor(s) Displays Samsung 933BW Plus Screen Resolution 1440x900 Keyboard A4Tech X7 G800 Mouse A4Tech X7 XL-747h + X7 801 Mouse Pad PSU Cooler Master GX-550w 80 Plus Bronze Case Cooler Master Elite 430 Black Cooling Waiting for Haswell Hard Drives Will buy after getting upcoming Haswell Internet Speed 4MB Cable Broadband Other Info Lamptron FC-5 V2 Fan Controller | Lamptron Dual CCFL Kit (Blue) | Liteon iHAS 322-07B DVD-RW | Xigmatek XLF-F1253 | CM 2x 120mm's | SVC 1.2KVA Off-line UPS |

Quick update: I decided to do a clean OS (and everything else) install. It's gone rather smoothly and quickly, I was up until 1AM babysitting the last of the Windows updates. System has a higher 'Windows experience' value than with the same hardware last week. I haven't tried any games yet (still downloading). As a side note, I've been playing Battlefield 3 online for several weeks and had no issues related to the machine other than the graphics driver 'blink'. So anyway, tonight I will try MW2. If it's still icky, I'll reinstall it. More to follow and thanks for the replies. I'll start wiggling hardware if all else fails. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Scratch Built OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Full Retail SP1 CPU Intel Core 2 Quad 2.83GHz LGA775 Motherboard MSI P43 C51 Memory 2x PNY 2GB DDR3 1333 , 2x Crucial 2GB DDR3 1333 Graphics Card ECS GeForce GTS 450 1GB PCIE 2.0 176 Sound Card Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality Monitor(s) Displays Acer X203Wbd 20" Widescreen LCD Screen Resolution 1680X1050 Keyboard Logitech backlit gaming keyboard Mouse Logitech G5 Gaming Mouse PSU Cooler Master 550w RS 550 Case Antec Three Hundred Illusion Mid Tower Cooling 4 120mm fans, Cooler Master Hiper 212 plus CPU cooler Hard Drives Western Digital Caviar WD5000 500GB 7200RPM SATA

I went through my Steam games and of the MW series, only COD MW worked. BFBC2 worked, Black ops broke, MW2 broke, MW3 broke. I uninstalled them all and am reinstalling MW2 to see if it works. I'll update when I know something. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Scratch Built OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Full Retail SP1 CPU Intel Core 2 Quad 2.83GHz LGA775 Motherboard MSI P43 C51 Memory 2x PNY 2GB DDR3 1333 , 2x Crucial 2GB DDR3 1333 Graphics Card ECS GeForce GTS 450 1GB PCIE 2.0 176 Sound Card Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality Monitor(s) Displays Acer X203Wbd 20" Widescreen LCD Screen Resolution 1680X1050 Keyboard Logitech backlit gaming keyboard Mouse Logitech G5 Gaming Mouse PSU Cooler Master 550w RS 550 Case Antec Three Hundred Illusion Mid Tower Cooling 4 120mm fans, Cooler Master Hiper 212 plus CPU cooler Hard Drives Western Digital Caviar WD5000 500GB 7200RPM SATA

Hmmmm, I was wanting to buy an SSD to update my old rig just a bit and do what you did but, after hearing all of this... I don't really know if I want to go thru this ordeal!
I know each computer is different but still... this is usually what happens to me. It does not mean that I am happy it happened to you as well, don't misconstrue

All,
I tore down my machine to the bone, cleaned up the video card (guess I didn't do such a good job last time) cleaned up the wire rat race and now it plays fine. case closed, I dont' think it was the SSD. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Scratch Built OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Full Retail SP1 CPU Intel Core 2 Quad 2.83GHz LGA775 Motherboard MSI P43 C51 Memory 2x PNY 2GB DDR3 1333 , 2x Crucial 2GB DDR3 1333 Graphics Card ECS GeForce GTS 450 1GB PCIE 2.0 176 Sound Card Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality Monitor(s) Displays Acer X203Wbd 20" Widescreen LCD Screen Resolution 1680X1050 Keyboard Logitech backlit gaming keyboard Mouse Logitech G5 Gaming Mouse PSU Cooler Master 550w RS 550 Case Antec Three Hundred Illusion Mid Tower Cooling 4 120mm fans, Cooler Master Hiper 212 plus CPU cooler Hard Drives Western Digital Caviar WD5000 500GB 7200RPM SATA
