How much RAM will I need to run Skyrim smooth?

Here are my current computer specs:

    Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.60GHz
    2.00 GB RAM
    32-bit Operating System
    AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series

I understand 2.00 GB is not a good amount for Skyrim as it continuously lags and freezes. What I need to know is how much RAM and/or other parts could I upgrade to make it run nice and smoothly, with hardly any if not no lagg at all?

Also my motherboard has 4 slots for RAM, would it be possible to run 8GB ram on a 32-bit system?

Here are the specs you need for skyrim to run smoothly.

As for your ram question.. 4GB max. I also think your processor is too slow.. you need a dual core.

To meet the recommended PC specification, you'll need the following:

    • Windows 7/Vista/XP PC (32 or 64 bit)
    • Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD CPU
    • 4 GB System RAM
    • 6 GB free HDD space
    • DirectX 9 compatible NVIDIA or AMD ATI video card with 1GB of RAM (Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 or higher; ATI Radeon 4890 or higher).
    • DirectX compatible sound card
    • Internet access for Steam activation

And here's the minimum requirements to get the game up and running:

    • Windows 7/Vista/XP PC (32 or 64 bit)
    • Processor: Dual Core 2.0 GHz or equivalent processor
    • 2 GB System RAM
    • 6 GB free HDD Space
    • Direct X 9 compliant video card with 512 MB of RAM
    • DirectX compatible sound card
    • Internet access for Steam activation

    Hope this helps!

Amount of RAM? About 32 GB should do it...

No not really, 4GB is good for Skyrim but I'd go for 6GB+.
If there are 4 slots on your motherboard then you can put four sticks of RAM in, easy.

However, seeing since you're a 32-bit person you can only handle 4GB RAM

    As for upgrades :
    Intel Quad Core i5-3570k
    64 bit OS (optional, really)
And it probably is just me but I prefer NVIDIA over AMD. Just me I guess.
    GTX 550Ti/560Ti/570/580/680/690 all good :)

My system runs skyrim relatively smooth but will point blank refuse to run the high res texture pack, and regardless of what configuration you got when you get to markarth, your computer will die a slow and painful death.

I'm no expert, but 4gig should do fine

4gbs is good and with a decent video card and duo core at 2.0Ghz or more is what i would recommend to run skyrim smoothly. Though adding another 2gbs could help performance ,also if you use a dedicated video card instead of integrated graphics, that helps a lot also. I would like to also add that it is very easy to change to a 64bit system as long as your cpu and motherboard supports it,you could burn a 64bit iso of the version of windows you have and backup your other stuff and install the 64bit version and you would be able to handle more then 3.5gbs of ram which your a limited to in 32bit.

I don't think that even with 4 GB DDR2 RAM and AMD RADEON HD 6800 series will help with your Skyrim FPS lags and freezing. The problem is that you are using Pentium 4! Even at 3.6 GHz, it is as slow as molasses by today's standards. I highly doubt it could even keep up with the GPU at even 25% GPU load. Your Pentium 4 is seriously bottlenecking your GPU. If you are using the LGA775 Socket, get at least a Core 2 Duo E6850 @ 3 GHz + upgrade RAM 4 GB and reinstall Windows as 64-bit to get full access to your 4 GB ram as the 32-bit is only limited to 3.25 GB. You will see tremendous performance boost with the CPU and RAM upgrade since the CPU has enough processing power to keep up with the HD 6800 series GPU.

4GB will be good but 6GB or 8GB will be best!

Correction: 128GB RAM would be THE BEST! (*wink wink*)

32bit os doesn't see or use more than 3.25 gb out of 4gb so you know how much to get.

as to your ram selection, check with your manufacturer you have 4 slots which may mean you are capped at 1gb per slot or 2gb per slot max some boards do have weird restrictions.
