7100 build, can't get games to work

    I have the next setup:

    Nehalem 920
    Asus Xonar D2
6 Gb of O>C Gold edition
    P6T deluxe V2
    Sapphire ATI 4870 X2
    etc..

My problem is that I can't get certain games to work. Flatout works fine, so does GRID, The Witcher, Nation red, Bioshock and assassin creed.

Arma 2 and HoN(Heores of Newerth) Won't Work. When I try to execute one of them, my Windows 7 gives an error saying "C:\windows\system32\d3dx9_40.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contais an errorr. etc"

This is clearly DX problem as far as I can go to it. Would any of you know what to do? I've uninstalled DX, I've reinstalled all the games, I've reinstalled GPU drivers and so on.

    Any suggestions?

    Get your DLL here :
    DLL-files.com - d3dx9_40.dll, free download
and put it at the right place. Some games just can't get the newer libraries to work.

Also, you can install all three DX (Direct X 9.0c, Direct X 10 & 11). Direct X 11 is the one that comes with Win7. They won't conflict

More like it is an all-in-one update,

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...1-442d8712d553

that will update all three (or one or two, depending on which OS).

    Thanks guys,

I forgot to mention, that I have already tried to install all those different directx packages found from Microsoft site. No luck what so ever. The only thing I haven't tried yet is reinstalling the whole Windows 7. I also have XP waiting here and I will go back to it if nothing else works.

So yeah, I've tried to install those directx-packages. I've also downloaded that .dll file from that suggested website, won't help at all. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled and patched all the games as most of my games are from Steam. Some games work, some won't. Some of them give me that DX-error message, some just won't load.

Do you guys have more good ideas?

I have seen how some games won't play well because of DX9 files. I can't be sure as to why but all I know is that, whenever I install a game, if it asks me if I want to install DX9 in the process, I always answer YES, otherwise, more times than none... the game won't play.

Re install the game again and install DX9 when it asks you to do so.

I reinstalled W7 and at least HoN works at the moment just fine. I have to install Steam and check out if it's the culprit here. This time I ran directx websetup right after installation of W7 and so far so good. Reinstallation seems to solve most of the problems connected to any given Windows it seems. I'll setup the rest of my applications and report how it went.

Make DARN sure you have all your t's crossed and i's dotted before attempting any major game with Win7
Win7 at the core start of it all after you install it comes with a very watered down basic DX that's basically a preview build of DX 11
What you HAVE to do is get DX 9 & 10 mixed in with the system (Depending on if you have a 10 card or not as w/o the 10 card getting 10 is irrelevant)
