7100 build, can't get games to work I have the next setup:
Nehalem 920
Asus Xonar D2
6 Gb of O>C Gold edition
P6T deluxe V2
Sapphire ATI 4870 X2
etc..
My problem is that I can't get certain games to work. Flatout works fine, so does GRID, The Witcher, Nation red, Bioshock and assassin creed.
Arma 2 and HoN(Heores of Newerth) Won't Work. When I try to execute one of them, my Windows 7 gives an error saying "C:\windows\system32\d3dx9_40.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contais an errorr. etc"
This is clearly DX problem as far as I can go to it. Would any of you know what to do? I've uninstalled DX, I've reinstalled all the games, I've reinstalled GPU drivers and so on.
Any suggestions? | My System Specs |

Get your DLL here : DLL-files.com - d3dx9_40.dll, free download
and put it at the right place. Some games just can't get the newer libraries to work.
Also, you can install all three DX (Direct X 9.0c, Direct X 10 & 11). Direct X 11 is the one that comes with Windows 7. They won't conflict | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom build OS Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1 CPU Core i7 950 3.06 GHz Motherboard Gigabyte X58A-UD3R Memory Corsair XSM3 6GB 1333MHz DDR3 9-9-9-24 Graphics Card Asus nVidia GeForce GTX460 Factory Overclocked Sound Card HT-Omega Claro 7.1 Monitor(s) Displays Asus VW246H 24" Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech K350 Mouse Logitech M510 PSU Xigmatek NRP-PC702 700W (cable hell) Case Lian-Li Lancool PC-K62 Cooling Stock fans for PC case, Cooler Master Hyper N520 for CPU Hard Drives 1x90GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD (System, internal)

Thanks guys,
I forgot to mention, that I have already tried to install all those different directx packages found from Microsoft site. No luck what so ever. The only thing I haven't tried yet is reinstalling the whole Windows 7. I also have XP waiting here and I will go back to it if nothing else works.
So yeah, I've tried to install those directx-packages. I've also downloaded that .dll file from that suggested website, won't help at all. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled and patched all the games as most of my games are from Steam. Some games work, some won't. Some of them give me that DX-error message, some just won't load.
Do you guys have more good ideas? | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 CPU Nehalem 920 Motherboard O6t deluxe V2 Memory OCZ Gold edition 6Gb Graphics Card 4870 X2 Sound Card Asus Sonar D2 Monitor(s) Displays Asus VK266H |

I have seen how some games won't play well because of DX9 files. I can't be sure as to why but all I know is that, whenever I install a game, if it asks me if I want to install DX9 in the process, I always answer YES, otherwise, more times than none... the game won't play.
Re install the game again and install DX9 when it asks you to do so. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Built OS Vista x64 + Windows 7 x64 (Ultimate) CPU Intel Q9650 Motherboard EVGA 780i FTW Memory 8GBs Corsair Dominator 1066Mhz Graphics Card Asus GTX660 (2GBs) + MSI 9600GT (PhysX) Sound Card Onboard Realtek HD Monitor(s) Displays Acer AL2216W Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Keyboard Logitech G15 Mouse Logitech G9 PSU PC Cooling 750w Silencer Case Thermaltake Spedo Advance Cooling CM 8V Hard Drives WD VelociRaptor 300GB

I reinstalled Windows 7 and at least HoN works at the moment just fine. I have to install Steam and check out if it's the culprit here. This time I ran directx websetup right after installation of Windows 7 and so far so good. Reinstallation seems to solve most of the problems connected to any given Windows it seems. I'll setup the rest of my applications and report how it went. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 CPU Nehalem 920 Motherboard O6t deluxe V2 Memory OCZ Gold edition 6Gb Graphics Card 4870 X2 Sound Card Asus Sonar D2 Monitor(s) Displays Asus VK266H |

Make DARN sure you have all your t's crossed and i's dotted before attempting any major game with Windows 7
Windows 7 at the core start of it all after you install it comes with a very watered down basic DX that's basically a preview build of DX 11
What you HAVE to do is get DX 9 & 10 mixed in with the system (Depending on if you have a 10 card or not as w/o the 10 card getting 10 is irrelevant) | My System Specs | | 7100 build, can't get games to work problems? All times are GMT -5. The time now is 07:33 PM. | |
