This should be absolutely fine your Windows PC should pick up and install the correct
drivers for this without a problem.

I myself use an unofficial Gaming receiver found here:

Which I installed simply by going to my device manager and telling my computer that there was an Xbox 360 gaming receiver plugged into a certain port (assigned the drivers) and I'm still using the Microsoft Controller software that shows battery life etc.
