UPDATED: Left 4 Dead 2 Banned in Australia

No, we're not kidding. Stop laughing. Please.

    by Patrick Kolan, IGN AU

Australia, September 16, 2009 - Thanks to the Australian Classifications Board (and by way of Kotaku), Aussie gamers have one more game to cross off their lists for the time being - Valve's highly-anticipated Left 4 Dead 2. The zombie-survival shooter has just been refused classification, preventing the title from being sold on Australian shelves.
The original Left 4 Dead was rated 'MA 15+' by the Board.

At this stage, we're seeking the full report from the ACB, but EA Australia has issued the following statement: "[We] are still working through the submission process with OFLC and want to explore all opportunities before making any comment."

    A dark day for Australia........
thats a screwy law. why didnt it get the same rating as the first l4d? it ultimatly the same game, just heavily modified and updated, but none the less, a zombie killing bloodbath.

They will probably ban other titles as well besides that one game alone due to the violent content and graphic details. The problem is the more realistic lifelike technologies that game designer now have available. As sequels to previously passable games become more intense as well as the new titles being released they are taking these factors into consideration there.

Tru, pretty much doesnt make too much sense as to why they would ban it

this game is taking hits left and right. first they had (have) the boycott by appx. 100,000 gamers. now its been barred by an entire country. maybe its a dark day for Valve, instead.

First you have to understand that each location on the globe as well as cultural environment will have a larger bearing on "what is acceptable" and "what is objectionable" by each location's own standards. As the article mentions there they have their own Classifications Board to go through.
