Steam must be started twice to log in.

Okay this is actually a fairly common problem for people right now apparently, but the steam forums aren't any help thought I might pick a few brains here.

    The scenario is pretty simple.
The first time you start steam the log in always fails.
The second time you start steam it logs in just fine.

This appears to happen regardless of if it's set to start with windows or not.
I've already played with most the network or environment variables that could be causing it. Just looking for other ideas at this point.

I've not had the issue at all here. If it starts with Windows or if manually started.

This makes me wonder if those that are experiencing this are having a network issue somewhere. Not on your end or on Steams end, but somewhere in between.

Well my local host for steam is actually in my city, I would hope it's not making a million hops to get there.

Well from looking at the steam forums on this same topic it all started around 5/5/12 for most of them.

It is odd and Id love to know what it the problem is. I have had periodic issues with a connection at times, but typically during the big sales, and mostly around the time new things pop up. But, I think this is typicall for everyone due to the extremely high traffic at the time.

I am curious as to what could be causing it it. Seems many do have this same issue, but theres just as many who do not.

This is a known issue on steam, it takes ages for its net detection to kick in, by any chance are you running on a wireless network, because switching to Ethernet actually fixed it for me.

I managed to fix it, ...somehow
I can't figure out what it is among the 50 things I did that actually solved the problem though
