    Sims 1 won't run

I managed to install Sims 1 but after clicking play nothing comes up. I have tried troubleshooting the problem, I've uninstalled and reinstalled it, and I've searched for any other solution online but nothing seems to work. help!

    System specs?
    Compatibility mode?

Tried in the sims forum first?

I'm not sure what my system specs are, but they're the same or similar to a friend's laptop and the game works just fine on hers. I've tried the compatibility thing and nothing seems to work.

I noticed something when I was looking in other places on how to fix my problem, they all say to right click on the shortcut, go to properties, and then the compatibility tab. When I go to properties, there's no compatibility tab, the shortcut isn't even under the game title, it's under the cd drive title. it's like my computer doesn't even recognize sims as a game, I'm not sure why it doesn't. I've tried every compatibility setting I can think of, I've uninstalled and reinstalled it, and I've tried running as admin, but absolutely nothing works. For all I know, my computer's bunk and just doesn't work.

What does it means "the shortcut isn't even under the game title, it's under the cd drive title"?

Maybe you're using a shortcut pointing to the CD instead of the installed copy on the HD?
Has the installer created any other shortcuts on the desktop/startmenu? Try to use them instead. Or else, try to not use any shortcut at all and run it by going with Windows Explorer to the game's folder.

In my PC, it runs right out of box, without any special consideration or compatibility setting (in Win7 x64).
Were you able to even see the game title, neighborhood or something or nothing happens at all?

Nothing happens after I click play, that's all it does. and the shortcut title should be something more like "play the sims" or something, but all it says is "CD drive-shortcut"

insert and run the disc in virtualbox after you install xp in virtualbox then go through the process of installing. the game should run fine.

I'm new to this whole thing, not exactly a computer person, I don't know how to install a game onto virtualbox, I've never had to before.
