Fallout 3 crash @ loading screen

I recently bought fallout 3 game of the year edition. However, the game crashes every time select new game (the loading screen apears for a few seconds). There is a lot on the net (on this forum as well) concerning the problem, but so far no sollution has worked for me.

My specs: Specs - Series 9 Notebooks NP900X3C | Samsung Laptops

What I tried so far (what I can remember):

-Installing fallout 3 patch
-Modifying fallout.ini files (using 1 core, using more cores could result in crashes during the game. Since it always crashes at the loading screen I don't think it is the problem)
-downloading and replacing dxd9.dll
-downloading and replacing xlive.dll
-Updating to directx11
-downloading and replacing dxd11.dll
-removing movies and music from the fallout3/data folder to ensure it is not a codec issue

In the windows log (via adminastratative tools) I first see a warning:

Title Fallout3.exe (1.7.0.3) XLive 3.5.0092.0 (WGX_XLIVE_V3.05_RTM(panblder).110928-1730) C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\xlive.dll
0x80004005

Games for Windows - LIVE DLL
C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\msidcrl40.dll 5.000.819.1

After which I see an error:

Naam van toepassing met fout: Fallout3.exe, versie: 1.7.0.3, tijdstempel: 0x4a40f18b
Naam van module met fout: Fallout3.exe, versie: 1.7.0.3, tijdstempel: 0x4a40f18b

Hopefully someone has a sollution for this problem for me...

First I would check if the laptop can handle the game... check minimum requirements for the game.

If it passes, then update your Audio and Video Drivers.

Now, games run fairly hot and if your laptop get hot easily, it won't handle any of these games... before you go spending money on a cooler, try the first 2 steps.

Thanks for your reply. I performed a systems requirment check and that seems to be fine. The game itselfs adjusts the stting to medium so that also indicates that it should not be total crap. Trying to run at the lowest setting does not solve the problem. Furthermore, if you check youtube you can find a lot of movies of people playing games on this laptop that are a lot more requiring. Fallout3 is from 2008 and not built for windows 7 (I think this is the main issue).

I updated both audio and graphics drivers. Disabeling audio in device manager does not work as well.

As I said, I think the issue is realted to windows 7 or some other weird conflict...

Windows 7 is far better than XP and Vista put together, I doubt that it has anything to do with your game freezing.

I mean, if you are saying that your notebook gets to about 80 degrees while browsing the internet, then, there is definitely something wrong with it and not much to do with the game. I can't even be sure but I don't believe your notebook should surpass the 60 degree temps, let alone get to the 80s.

Have to agree with him. Laptops in general have poor anti-heating without a coolant pad.

The notebook does not get hot at all. I never said it got to 80 degrees bowsing the internet... I could do some heating measurements if you like..

The manufacturer of the game says that there can be problems with windows 7 and a lot of people that switched from XP to windows 7 encouter the problem. So that's why I thick the problem is the combination windows 7 and fallout 3. Doesn't mean that windows 7 is crap, but probably the game is...

My apologies, I think I have gotten two posts mixed up because you are correct... there is nothing about your laptop getting hot!~

Those things were said at the beginning, more so when people were upgrading from xp to windows 7 but I don't believe that is your case as your laptop came with Win 7 already installed, you did not upgrade... correct?

My laptop came with Windows 7 indeed. The point I wanted to make that for other people using windows 7 was the problem. I know that this does not mean that it also holds for me.

Is there some way to extract more info about the crash (apart from windows log in admin tools?)?
