    Windows 7 with Battlefield 2 problem please help:(

    Hi all,

    Since 2 weeks I'm blessed with the joy of a Windows 7 x86 (64-bit) OS..
    Everything runs fine and smoothly, but whenever I try to install
    my Battlefield 2, it says, in the beginning of the installation;
    "this game has only been tested for windows xp (32-bit)".

    But that really doesn't give any problems because it proceeds the installation that being said...

    Alright, I skip that message and continue installation, it runs for a while and
    suddenly it gives an error saying;

    "Failed to install Battlefield 2, please try again from the beginning."

    Which i've tried several times.
    I've googled it and all I find there are mostly problems concerning the 3-cd copy (what doesn't apply to me because I am using the 1 dvd-rom copy), and the other problems found on google are connection or punkbuster problems.
    Which means there are people who have gotten it to work on their Windows 7 (even if Canyourunit.com say's it won't work).

    I have tried to install from a .iso, run as administrator but now I am out of ideas and feeling pretty bad because a little bit of Battlefield 2 so every now and then is a joy!

    Please help people!

    Greetings Kev1n.

    Try doing a manual cleanup,

    ANSWER

    and see if it will install then. If you are running 64 bit Windows you will need to go one folder further to find the registry entries referred to in that link,

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node

    then locate the Dice and EA folders.

    I have just two items to ask,

    1) what antivirus/firewall are you using
    2) are you using Bitlocker?

    Disable what excactly in the antivirus? The install.exe file (or whats it called )? Because I'm using AVG free so I should put something in the exceptions?
    And by firewall, do you mean the AVG firewall or the one from Windows itself?

    Any updates Kevin?

    I was running BF2 with the Windows 7 RC x64 for a while with no problems. I currently am running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit and have BF2 installed with no problems. Even though I have 32-bit version I still get that message in the beginning because it's designed for XP.

    Don't you have to install an application in whatever mode the OS runs under, and after installation, run the program in compatibility mode?

    I don't think you start an installation in compatibility mode. Least, I have not seen this. There are so many new things in Windows 7, I could be wrong about this.

    Say it ain't so...

    DARN It!... I was going to install BF2 this evening. It is really odd as to which games work, and which ones does not work with Windows 7. A new game like Operation Flashpoint2 installs and runs perfectly, an old game like Silent Hunter also installs and runs great, then a relatively new title like Crysis won't run at all.

    It seems that Microsoft kind of left gamers hanging. Maybe there was not so much game compatibility testing for Windows 7.

    It was suggested in a earlier post, that you can install the game in compatibility mode. I am not sure that you can actually perform an install in a specific compatibility mode. I believe that once an application is already installed, you can choose to run it in compatibility mode.

    Sorry, I don't have a solution, but I will try the install any and see what happens
